[Couverture Note politique environnementale AO]

Hello Neil,
Sorry for the lateness of my reply.
Kindly Google 'inve artemia' u ll be shown the product and the producer. For years hatcheries around depend on this product for the fries feed. I guess they changed something in the formula which is now making the fries to die once they start feeling on it.
I wouldn't mind if i can have access to what u use over there and be able to produce my own artemia. The best we do now is get 0.5-0.8mm of feeds meant for fingerlings. Grind to powder and feed the fries.

Meilleures salutations,
Nabil

Subject: RE: Problems with survival rates of Clarias juveniles in the hatchery ....
Dear All,
We had the same problem of low survival rates of juveniles of African catfish which mainly came from cannibalism, but we managed to overcome this problem through the following four procedures:
1. Grading the fry each 8 – 10 days (not less and not more).
2. Introduced live food (rotifers) for the new hatched fry.
3. Built small brick tanks which is more suitable for rearing the catfish fingerlings than net hapas.
(And the fourth procedure was to reduce the aggressiveness of the broodstock, if you don’t suffering from this problem you can eliminate it)
4. Inject both males and females with ovaprim ® which reduced the aggressiveness and increased egg numbers.
Hope to find it useful.
Best regards,
Nabil

Good morning Koba
With clients and on our own R&D facility we have put enormous effort into perfecting the survival and growth rate of African catfish over the past years. I can tell you that there are several factors that are key to obtaining this, including optimising both water quality & feed, but even so a 50% survival is not realistic. If you get a 20% survival from egg to 1kg you are doing well.
Regards,
Leslie
Bonjour Koba

Just to know if anyone can give me information on how to get a survival rate of at least 50% catfish fingerlings gariepinus.
Indeed, the hatching rate is good but already from the 3rd day of feeding decapsulated Artemia there are high mortalities and for the following days. And yet we also siphoned off water and replaced it (well water at pH = 5.3) for the larvae repeating this at least 2 times a day after the water had been well oxygenated.
At first I thought that the cause of the mortality of the fry could be either virus, bacteria, yeast or fungi. So I installed a 30 watt UV sterilizer through which the water passes before reaching the larvae but no improvement.

Email and mobile phone whats app networks developing commercial aquaculture in Nigeria
Dear all
Please see below note how this simple yahoo email catfish farmers forum in Nigeria now with hundreds of members all over the country are buying and selling not just fingerlings and market fish but also inputs feed fertilisers etc also for questions and advice There is also a similar equally popular Nigerian catfish farmers mobile phone whats app group which has daily messages on the same subjects and thus huge networks of fish farmers communicating with each other on daily basis- In the last weeks on the catfish farmers app they have been discussing market process for their grow out fish and how they can potentially state and then country wide try to control prices - as their margins are ever declining due to the continually increasing prices per tonne of commercial feed in the country………………….
Please note this for sarnissa fish farmers in other countries - also for those involved in aquaculture development across SS Africa both govts and also national and international donors and investors - These email and mobile phone whats app networks cost next to nothing to set up and normally just the time of a dedicated individual to run them - And the impacts and concrete positive outcomes from them are huge ….
Best wishes Will

Bonjour,

Hello,
Most breeders around me do get over 60% rate of survival of the fingerings.
My personal suggestion is stop the artemia feed you give the fries. It kills the fries.
I ll suggest you look for alternatives.

Nigeria

Good morning Koba
With clients and on our own R&D facility we have put enormous effort into perfecting the survival and growth rate of African catfish over the past years. I can tell you that there are several factors that are key to obtaining this, including optimising both water quality & feed, but even so a 50% survival is not realistic. If you get a 20% survival from egg to 1kg you are doing well.
Regards,
Leslie
Bonjour Koba

Merci

Hello everyone
So if anyone has experience in this area I will be very willing to hear from you .
Thank you

The Save the Tigris and Iraqi Marshes Campaign have released a report on the impact of the Daryan Dam on the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The Daryan Dam is a large dam currently under construction on the Sirwan River in Iran. The report highlights the controversial construction of dams for purposes of self-interest in a water scarce region despite evidence of their significant negative impact both locally, through displacement, and downstream, through reduced water flows.

Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to share with you a new report produced by GWI in West Africa entitled Towards a shared vision: Advisory services that work for smallholders and government in West Africa’s large irrigation schemes<http://www.gwiwestafrica.org/en/towards-shared-vision-advisory-services-wor…>. This report summarises nearly three years of action research on agricultural advisory services for large scale irrigation systems in West Africa. It explores the structure, functioning and challenges of agricultural advisory services in three irrigation schemes in the region (Anambé in Senegal, Sélingué in Mali, and Bagré in Burkina Faso). The aim was to draw conclusions on how such services can be improved so they respond better to the demands of different types of farmers and, ultimately, to contribute to sustainable livelihoods through better use of the opportunities that irrigation provides. The following practical recommendations are offered:
[Towards a shared vision: Advisory services that work for smallholders and government in West Africa’s large irrigation schemes]<http://www.gwiwestafrica.org/en/towards-shared-vision-advisory-services-wor…>• Carry out a participatory assessment of institutional and organisational systems and capacities before development interventions start in large irrigation schemes.
• Develop and implement comprehensive AAS strategies for irrigation schemes.
• Develop farmers’ organisational capacity to strengthen the ‘demand side’ of AAS.
• Create and facilitate a communication space where farmers’ organisations, irrigation scheme managing agencies and other agricultural service providers can coordinate and negotiate.
