Dear Will,
Sorry to say all presentations at IIFET conferences are required to be accessible in English. We have plenty of French speakers at our conferences but they give their papers in English.
Thanks for offering to post on Sarnissa's FB page--I am a member and see significant traffic there. Here's a shortened message for that:
Please join us for IIFET's 16th international conference "Visible Possibilities: The Economics of Sustainable Fisheries, Aquaculture and Seafood Trade" July 16-20, 2012 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Abstract submission is now open! Oral and poster format presentations, as well as proposals for special sessions, will be reviewed beginning November 5, 2011. See http://iifet.org for details.
I also have an event posted on the IIFET facebook page. I don't have access to that right now but I guess you could do a search on Facebook for IIFET and find the reference for the event page? Let me know if you need to get that for you.
Thanks for your help in publicizing.

Dear Ann
Sorry but Peter's message has already been posted up on the forum - However no worries if you want to send a modified version - we can also put that up .
Ann - If you can - I would like to suggest you also send a short 3-4 sentence summary of the conference including links and I will then also put up on the sarnissa Facebook site - It will get further African and international exposure there with over 1000 users now following the daily updated site
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sarnissa-Sustainable-Aquaculture-Research-Net…
Also can I ask you about potential francophone participants for your conference ? As you know on SARNISSA now a significant number - one third - of our regd members are French speakers - and we run a separate French email forum for them and sometimes translate across so that both "sides" can start to interact and share with each other. Anyway Im not sure about the position for French speakers at the conference? - but think if you can also send out some French language fliers and details on SARNISSA about the conference you will get a lot of interest and a number of takers - Again something like a 3-4 sentence summary with contacts would be enough to start and create awareness
Best wishes and thanks
Will

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
This message is Part II of our first call for abstracts, providing additional detail and opening the online abstract submission system.
Please join us for IIFET's 16th biennial conference:
IIFET 2012 Tanzania
Visible Possibilities:
The Economics of Sustainable Fisheries, Aquaculture and Seafood Trade
Conference Themes and Topics
The general theme of the conference will be revealing the hidden possibilities of fisheries in all areas of the world, with particular emphasis on Africa and developing regions.
Participants are encouraged to reflect on the goods and services fisheries and aquaculture provide to human society and on the objective that fishery management and aquaculture development should provide contributions to human wellbeing - whether through macro-economic growth (resource rents, trade revenues), small-business profits, wage labor, or nutritious food. These "goods" need to be weighed against the costs inherent in utilizing fish resources. Participants are also encouraged to examine - and suggest solutions for resolving - those aspects of fisheries management and aquaculture development that can hamper our ability to fulfill this objective, helping to avoid worsening poverty traps, ecosystem damage, and inequities amongst fishery and aquaculture stakeholders.
We stress that development, in this context, is something that takes place in every society, at all levels, and not just a process in the developing world. It is a continual process of change - of seeking a cleaner, safer and more prosperous world and a fairer society - that is relevant everywhere.
Suggested topics and sessions:
Wealth, Welfare and Wellbeing: How Fisheries and Aquaculture can Contribute, including analysis of synergies and trade-offs in different approaches
* What Works in Fisheries Governance and Aquaculture development? Impact assessment, encouraging both ex-post and ex-ante studies
* Governance of Tenure and Rights Based Management: Experiences, Issues, and Implementation in Large and Small scale fisheries; integrating RBM and other economically rational management approaches into existing fishery management structures
* Rights Based Management as applied to Tuna fisheries
* Measuring and Quantifying the Potential of Fisheries and Aquaculture for Wealth Generation, Economic Development, and Poverty Reduction
* Fisheries Access Agreements: Analysis, Negotiations, Impacts
* Fisheries Spatial Management, Marine Reserves and Protected Areas
* Cooperatives and Community Management
Environmental Issues in Fisheries and Aquaculture
* Economics of Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in Fisheries and Aquaculture - including new work on costs of adaptation (or inaction), 'blue carbon', acidification, etc.
* Resilience and Marine Ecosystem Services
Methodological Frontiers in Fisheries and Aquaculture Economics: experimental economics, game theory, and other existing and new, cutting edge theoretical and quantitative approaches, including understanding the economics of "rules of origin" in game theory and applications
* Economic Valuation of Fisheries and Aquaculture: models and practical applications
* Bioeconomic Modeling
* Measuring Profitability in Small Scale Fishing and Aquaculture Enterprises
Fisheries, Aquaculture and Food Security: Sustainable Supply, Ethical and Sustainable Consumption and Trade; what we know and don't know about the linkages between fisheries and aquaculture, nutrition and food security and micro and macro levels.
* Economic Impacts of Eliminating Barriers to Trade (including through free trade zones, on facilitating intra and inter regional trade of fish and fishery products)
* Value Chain Analysis in Seafood Markets
Developing Fisheries and Aquaculture Sectors to Address Poverty and Increase Productivity, Profitability and Sustainability
* Including Small-scale Fisheries in Wealth Generation
* Bringing Development Economics Together with Fisheries and Aquaculture Economics to strengthen theory and policy for poverty reduction, food security, and sustainable regional development
* Adding Value in Small Scale Fisheries and Aquaculture Enterprises (for example, pearl and seaweed farming in Tanzania)
Gender: Women and Rights in Fisheries and Aquaculture, including:
* Fish market outlook and gender
* African women's economic roles in fisheries and aquaculture
* Cross-border trade in seafood and gender
* Value chains and gender roles
The Economics of Recreational Fisheries
The Economics of Aquaculture Production
(This list is intended to be suggestive, not exhaustive. Aquaculture and fisheries topics may be treated in the same, or in separate sessions, depending on the topic.)

Post Conference Field Trip
The IIFET 2012 Tanzania Conference Secretariat at UDSM is considering organizing a short (1-2 night) post-conference field trip, to familiarize participants with the local people, situation, and fisheries. One potential site under discussion is Zanzibar. Participants might fly to Zanzibar Friday evening July 20, and return Saturday night or Sunday morning, after a day's activities in the ancient stone town and potentially in nearby marine reserves. This would be an optional activity; the price would be set to cover costs. If you might be interested in such a visit, please contact Mr. Stephen Kirama at ngareni3(a)yahoo.co.uk<mailto:ngareni3@yahoo.co.uk<mailto:ngareni3@yahoo.co.uk%3cmailto:ngareni3@yahoo.co.uk>> to let us know of your interest and ideas.

Participants are strongly encouraged to take advantage of our visit to Tanzania to pursue the many exciting tourism opportunities which exist there, in the game parks, beaches, Mt. Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar, among others. The Conference Secretariat will be identifying local tour operators with whom participants may wish to privately engage for extended safaris to the northern and southern game parks and other sites of interest (the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Mt. Kilimanjaro, etc.). In the meantime, please visit http://www.tanzaniatouristboard.com/ for general information on tourism options in this fascinating and beautiful country. Caveat: we can't be held responsible for your extreme desire to attend this conference, once you see those pictures...
