Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to let you know that the Global Water Initiative in West Africa led by the
International Institute for Environment and Development with the International Union for
Conservation of Nature, is convening a side event at this year's World Water Week,
which runs from 23 - 28 August 2015.
The event, Towards socially just and economically viable dams in West
Africa<http://programme.worldwaterweek.org/event/4549>49>, will share some of the
lessons from the work of the GWI in West Africa, and exchange experiences with others from
across the globe about how to make large multi-purpose dams benefit local as well as
national development. Simultaneous French and English interpretation will be provided.
This work is funded by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and implemented by IIED and IUCN.
When: Sunday, 23 August (16:00-17:30)
Where: Room FH 201

You can also read a new photo blog , with photos taken for the GWI in West Africa in
villages around the Sélingué dam in Mali. The blog highlights how there is no
'standard' example of a family farmer when it comes to the irrigation schemes
surrounding large dams. You can read it here:
