The cages made in Uganda are 2mx2mx2m. Cost is about $US80. Cages are
made of nylon, knotted, and treated with bitumen. We figure that life
is 2 years.
The techniques used to produce fish in these cages are based upon the
low-volume-high density cage culture techniques. At harvest, density is
150-200 kg per cubic meter; sometimes higher; the record being about 700
kg/cubic meter.
The cage-makers will also make to dimensions ordered. For trials, we
often use a 1 cubic meter cage.
I took a sample cage to Ghana; it rests with WRI.
Let me know if you wish to try some; we will have to be creative about
transport but everything is possible.

Could someone provide Prof. Mutambe with data on
market prices of fish
cages ? He will conduct experiments and would like to conduct a price
survey on the various options available. Thank you !
