This Friday at Stirling: Event with Amy Hume, Senior Behavioural Insights Associate at Ofcom

Dear PhD Lab, There is another relevant event happening at Stirling this Friday. I can’t go myself as I just learned about it today and I am already booked up for Friday but it’s something you should consider attending. Amy Hume, a Senior Behavioural Insights Associate at Ofcom is coming to our campus for a careers event. Amy did Stirling's Behavioral Science MSc in 2015/16 and she has had a pretty impressive career as an Applied Behavioural Scientist since. If you can, join this event (this Friday at 2pm in Lecture Theatre B4). Amy will talk about career opportunities at Ofcom, their projects and their methods. The event itself is for a general audience (not particularly Behavioural Science), but given Amy's background I am sure Behavioural Science will feature prominently. If anything, approach Friday as a networking event where you can introduce yourself to Amy and talk about your research if the chance arises. Amy will likely visit us again in January (this time with a more Behavioural Science focus) so it may be useful if she already knows who you are and what you do by then. Who knows, maybe this can lead to a collaborative project if the stars align. Training needs assessment (TNA) and IAS paperwork

Dear PhD Lab students, I talked to IAS and they said that your student-supervisor concordat and PGR data sheet are still not ready yet but will be soon. Please let your supervisors know once you receive them, so we can fill them in together. In the meantime, let's tackle your training needs assessment (TNA). Stirling doesn't have its own forms for that, so I stole the template that SGSSS uses. It's a simple enough form that I attach here. Could I ask all students to fill this in and send to your supervisory team? We will then schedule another round of meetings (separate from the 1:1 meetings currently underway) to discuss your TNAs. If applicable, please also add any University-level modules you feel you would benefit from. It's typically very easy to give you audit student status at Stirling. When it comes to modules at other Scottish Universities, it's less straightforward but we have been successful in the past with that as well. Teaching accreditation for PhDs

Hi all, Putting this here so I can remember for myself but also in case it is of interest to fellow PhDs! Katie and I had a drop-in session with Beth Cairns from Learning and Teaching Enhancement regarding the teaching accreditation. Notes from our call: * There are two routes the taught and experiential route * The taught route is at capacity right now with people who need to do it as part of their probation * But, confusingly, the experiential route does include taught sessions, we would get support and even a mentor if we wanted. * The next feasible round would be starting in the new year. So for those that are interested we need to submit an application. * Beth also mentioned that there is a course called "new to teaching" which might run again in the new year and could complement the experiential route but dates TBC as the woman who delivers this is still on mat leave for the next month or so. Richard Wright will be speaking on ‘Mind the Gap: Academic theories and changing behaviour in the real world’. Please share with others who would like to join! About Richard: Richard has a PhD in Psychology and 40 years of experience in behavioural science across academia, industry and consultancy. He has an international reputation for his work on behaviour change and quantitative behavioural evaluation. He worked for Unilever for 25 years, where he led global behavioural programmes, including £200M worth of collaborations with governments, NGOs and private sector companies. In 2023, he set up ‘Behaviour 2 Business’ as an independent consultancy, and now works with blue chip companies and academic clients.
