Hi all,
Putting this here so I can remember for myself but also in case it is of interest to fellow PhDs!
Katie and I had a drop-in session with Beth Cairns from Learning and Teaching Enhancement regarding the teaching accreditation.
Notes from our call:
*
There are two routes the taught and experiential route
*
The taught route is at capacity right now with people who need to do it as part of their probation
*
But, confusingly, the experiential route does include taught sessions, we would get support and even a mentor if we wanted.
*
The next feasible round would be starting in the new year. So for those that are interested we need to submit an application.
*
Beth also mentioned that there is a course called "new to teaching" which might run again in the new year and could complement the experiential route but dates TBC as the woman who delivers this is still on mat leave for the next month or so.
See the previous email from Beth with more info.
Best,
Jayne

Hello all,
It was lovely to meet you at the drop in and to hear about your PhD work. I am so jealous of your topics.
To summarise our conversation: The experiential route is open to you and from what you shared it sounds like you are both great candidates for Associate Fellow.
Please find the Associate Fellow guidance here:
https://stir.sharepoint.com/sites/learningteaching/SitePages/Appl.aspx
Please be aware that our cohorts that begin after this calendar year will all be moving to the new 2023 PSF here: PSF 2023 - Screen Reader Compatible - final_1675089549.pdf<https://s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/assets.creode.advancehe-document-manager…>
Once you have had a chance to think about what you would like to do please email our coordinator Emma Gilbert at academicdevelopment(a)stir.ac.uk to register your interest for the cohort. She will then get back to you at a later stage with dates etc.
We also discussed New to Teaching which you may decide to join in the new year. Our dates for this are yet to be confirmed as our colleague has not yet returned from Mat leave but once the dates are confirmed they will appear on our Events<https://stir.sharepoint.com/sites/learningteaching/_layouts/15/Events.aspx?…> page alongside our other CPD and trainings.
Please do not hesitate to get back to me if you have any questions and enjoy the rest of the day!
Thanks,
Beth

Folks,
If anyone is applying internally for the SGSSS PhD funding can you kindly notify me and send me a copy of your draft application before next Monday? If you do not notify me and Dionysia Dionysiou before then, you will not make it out of the B&M pathway.
I note that collaborative/Steers PhDs do not go through this route.

Dear PhD Lab,
I realised today that I sent the below e-mail to the wrong e-mail list.
Anyways, here’s the weekly reminder that our next PhD Lab takes place this Thursday 14:00-15:30 in Room 4B96. Liz Barker will talk us through her research agenda.
I will be joining from Vietnam remotely via Teams, so could someone set Teams up in the room?
The week after this, we have our book club and will discuss Chapter 6 of Doing Economics (presented by Gabe). Please read the chapter in preparation.
Best,
Till

Greetings from Ho-Chi-Minh City,
Thanks for sharing, Hector! I agree that this is a good opportunity.
You should also pencil in the SGPE conference in January. @Hector: Is there a date yet?
While I have you: Who wants the slot for coming week’s PhD Lab? (I will be joining the meeting from Vietnam via Teams) @Kevin: Maybe this would be a good opportunity for you to summarize the feedback you have been given by your AR reviewers so we can decide on a roadmap for you to wrap up Paper 1. Alternatively, Liz Barker could talk us through her PhD proposal.
Best,
Till

Folks at todays SES council meeting I was made aware that there are fewer than 10 days left to submit for next spring's SES meeting and to date there have been fewer than 40 papers submitted. This means that there is a very high likelihood of being accepted and moreover a great opportunity to participate in what is a very small, friendly and constructive conference.
I strongly urge you to submit. I would also especially commend the PhDs to submit their papers as this would be a good opportunity to get a friendly outing.
For more info and to submit please do so here:

Dear PhD Lab,
Just a quick reminder that we have a PhD Lab tomorrow at 14:00 in room 4B96 (right after the Economics seminar).
Liz Barnes will talk us through her early results of Study 4 and is seeking our collective feedback on her mediation analysis, in particular.
Best,
Till

Hi PhD folks,
This is what I got back regarding re-accreditation of SFELTE
Experience Route Option from 2025:
In 2025 after re-accreditation this will be aligned to the UKPSF 2023 and we will run two cohorts the first starting March and the second starting September. There will be a short application process to access these.
Here is information on the Professional Standards Framework 2011, which links to info on the updated 2023 version that we will be moving to in 2025 UKPSF 2011 fellowship application resources | Advance HE (advance-he.ac.uk)<https://www.advance-he.ac.uk/fellowship/fellowship-resources>
If you go for the experience route it is helpful to start to record your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity, if you don’t already do so – please see CPD Opportunities (sharepoint.com)<https://stir.sharepoint.com/sites/learningteaching/SitePages/Continued-Prof…>
Taught Route Option from 2025:
We are currently reaccrediting both programmes to align to the UKPSF 2023 so the next proposed run of the PG Cert will be the renamed: Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (PGCTSLHE) and it will be delivered as follows:
FOFP100 ‘Supporting and Facilitating Learning’ Spring 2025
FOFP200 ‘Assessing and Feedback for Learning’ Summer 2025
FOFP300 ‘Critically Evaluating Practice’ Autumn 2025
Should you wish to discuss this in more detail, please book an AD drop-in session here: Events (sharepoint.com)<https://stir.sharepoint.com/sites/learningteaching/_layouts/15/Events.aspx?…>
Kind regards,
Craig

Dear PhD Lab,
I am out of town next week but I think the lab should still go ahead.
* Date: Wednesday at 11:30-13:00
* Room: 2V3
@Supervisors: Could one of you “chair” next week’s session? It’s mainly about making sure that teams is running in the room (should be easy as it’s a regular computer – not the fidgety screen as on Thursdays) and that the session is recorded for this who can’t make the lab on Wednesdays.
@Students: We don’t have an agenda yet. Does any of you want to present something? We haven’t heard from Johanne in a while. Anything you want to run by the lab? Alternatively Gabe or Stewart could tell us something about their research plans. Or Liz Barnes talks us through her early results for Study 4? If there are no takers, we could do a merry-go-round and all students report on their progress lately.
Finally, I have tentatively added two dates for our book club (Doing Economics). Is there a volunteer to present Chapter 6?
Please feel free to include your name(s) in our live agenda document:

Hi Lab,
I was wondering if any of you attended this session.
29/10/24 – 11.00-12.00 - Researcher Development – Development Needs and Planning
If so, I’d like to hear what was discussed there. We can use 5-minute lab time for this today.
Till
