Hi,
Further to my email last month on the Survey Link Scheme.
We have just run two SLS Workshops for over 35 quantitative and
qualitative researchers drawn from a variety of backgrounds; and
received a very positive response. Participants thought it relevant both
for their current activities and their future careers.
For example:
"I thought today's workshop was excellent, superbly organised and
pitched at just the right level of active participation, informality and
useful information.
I just wanted to say thank you for such a brilliant workshop today, I
enjoyed it hugely and feel it was immensely useful, both for the project
and my own career development."
We still have some vacancies for the Workshop @ Edinburgh and I should
be grateful if you might make a fresh contact with anyone who is
interested to encourage them to register for the Workshop on 22 June.
Thank you
Tom

The workshops that we are planning to run in Edinburgh are part of a
nationwide dissemination of the ESRC Survey Link Scheme. Each workshop
in the Napier Building, Edinburgh can accommodate 18 participants; and
we wished to publicise it throughout the major Universities in Scotland.
The Workshop on 22nd June features the British Social Attitude Survey
conducted by NATCEN; and the one on 23rd June - the Scottish House
Condition Survey conducted by ONS. The Workshops are Free and
reasonable travel expenses are paid.
Details of the Scheme are contained in the promotional material
attached. Essentially it represents a desire by ESRC to provide
academics - postgraduates and teachers of social science methodology -
with an insight into how major survey organisations undertake their
surveys; and use BLAISE & CAPI in developing and conducting interviews.
The workshops are designed to be helpful both to quantitative or
qualitative researchers. The Scheme which has been running for some
several years provides the opportunity for participants to accompany
interviewers in the field:

Applications can be made through the website and will be allocated on a
first come first served basis.
Thank you for your help but please feel free to contact me should you
need more information.
Tom
