That certainly is a Gyrodactylus, you can even see the developing embryo within the developing embryo i.e. daughter and granddaughter inside. Great picture! This is predominantly a skin fluke and a dipterex or trichlorofon bath at 0.5ppm will solve the issue but bear in mind it's a tricky low dose. Or if you have access to saline water try that as a first option - I'm just not sure what the African catfish/parasite can tolerate. Parasites are generally easy to identify and with the right approach, easy to control. After choosing the right strategy for your operation it's basically a numbers game. Try to conduct what I like to call a 'paragram' first which is a small scale demonstration of the minimum effective dose and duration before any large scale treatment. This parasite is Macrogyrodactylus sp. a common gill monogenean of African catfishes. If you can send a higher resolution photomicrograph, and its size, it will be easier to visualize the shape of the ventral bar and marginal hooks and be able to tell the actual species. From my knowledge of its zoogeography, I would predict its either M. congolensis or M. clarii (see attached publications). I am quite interested in this parasite` and I would appreciate if you could send me some specimens.
