Fisheries Science Travel Grants

The Fisheries Society of the British Isles invites applications from
members for its travel grants to enable postgraduate students and others
to attend and present their work at scientific meetings, visit other
institutes and researchers, and attend training courses related to
fisheries science. Grants are of up to £1,000.

WIGS German Conferences
Deadline: 1 September 2004
Women in German Studies offers grants to attend conferences in the UK,
Ireland or German-speaking areas, at which the applicant is giving a
paper. Postgraduates are eligible for this support no more than once a
year and must be have been members of the society for at least three
months. Grants will not normally exceed £100.

ASAB Animal Behaviour
Deadline: 1 November 2004
The Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour offers the following
awards
* travel grants. These are intended to help postgraduate members of
the association attend conferences other than those organised by the
association, either in the UK or overseas. Applicants should normally be
contributing papers on animal behaviour, and must be registered for a
higher degree. Grants will not exceed £500.
* postgraduate and research workshops. The scheme aims to advance
understanding of some fertile area of animal behaviour by supporting a
small meeting of workers in the area concerned. It will be expected to
formulate proposals for future research and/or the promotion of animal
behaviour science. Funding is mainly for younger workers (PhD,
postdoctoral researchers) who are association members.
* research grants to support pilot projects and small-scale projects,
relating to animal behaviour, that are unlikely to attract funding
elsewhere. Grants will not exceed £5,000. Applicants must be ASAB members
with a PhD.

BA US Research Visits
Deadline: 31 December 2004
The British Academy offers grants to postgraduates for research in the
humanities and social sciences at the Huntington Library in San Marino,
California; the Newberry Library in Chicago; and the American
Philosophical Society.
The Huntington Library specialises in British and American history,
literature and art. The Newberry Library specialises in the history of
western Europe and the Americas from the late Middle Ages to the 19th
century, literature and the history of cartography. The APS specialises in
humanities and social sciences, with priority given to younger scholars,
and those researching American studies and the history of science,
medicine and technology.
Awards are available for one to three months and funds cover travel and
maintenance expenses.
