'Masquerade and modernity: performing the past in the present'
(Dept of Fine Art, University of Leeds)
5pm Room B2
Will researches the art history of Africa and has interests more generally in material
culture, sculpture (widely defined) and theories of the object, particularly the
applicability of anthropological models to art history. His work also explores the
modernities, religions and cultural heritage of Africa. His latest project is on the
Ibadan renaissance of the 1960s, a project that aims to draw the artistic, literary and
historical studies produced in the town of Ibadan in the 1960s into a wider relationship
with the immediate postcolonial context of the town.
