Dear all,
In the next BERG/SHAIR meeting this week, Rahel Brügger (University of Zurich) will
present her latest work.
From understanding others to understanding ourselves – Insights into the evolution of the
human mind from common marmosets
Cooperatively breeding common marmosets are an ideal model species to investigate some of
the key questions in the field of cognitive evolution. On the one hand how widespread are
key socio-cognitive abilities such as an understanding of others' behaviour and their
mental states but also social evaluation and on the other hand, how exactly did human
excellence in social cognition evolve and can high (reproductive as well as ecological)
interdependence be used to better understand human uniqueness. The talk further highlights
how using non-invasive tools to investigate physiological parameters can be used to gain
insights into cognitive processes not as easily accessible with behavioural experiments.
Rahel will join us online (Wednesday 30th, 4pm). I will not be in campus, but feel free to
gather in the Psychology Common Room as usual.
