And still looking for a runner.....
Great Run? Great Fun! Great cause. UFAW has a number of reserved places for people wishing to take part in the 'BUPA Edinburgh 10km Great Run' and willing to raise money for the charity. If you enjoy running and are happy to help fundraise on behalf of UFAW - we are looking for a commitment to raise at least £200 - then we would be grateful if you could contact us. Taking place on the 14th July, the route starts and finishes within Holyrood Park, in the shadow of Holyrood Palace and Arthur's Seat, and takes in the Royal Mile, Canongate and Regent Road. Further details on the course, can be found here:
http://www.greatrun.org/Events/Event.aspx?id=3
Please contact Dr Stephen Wickens if you would like to run on behalf of UFAW. Email your details and a telephone number to wickens(a)ufaw.org.uk<mailto:wickens@ufaw.org.uk>. Places are limited so don't delay.
Best, Hannah

Dear all
Two things!

She will tell you a little about her PhD research as well as about our new grant proposal so please come along!! 5.30pm in 3A94 as usual.
Second, as UFAW rep (UFAW kindly sponsor our seminar series) I would like to encourage a BERGer to do the Edinburgh 10Km, and for those of us not keen to run it, to sponsor that energetic person!!

Dear all - inc. my elective students
We have another external speaker at BERG this week - Ruth Sonnweber from the University of Vienna will give a presentation entitled The luxury of focused grooming: female Barbary macaques exhibit rank-dependent grooming strategies to alleviate physiological stress load.
5.30 pm in the Psychology Common Room (3A94, Cottrell Building) as usual.
Andrea Ravignani who spoke last week, will also come and we shall take them both out for dinner afterwards -a cheap and cheerful (such as the Mexican, Smiling Jacks) to make it affordable for all.
Please let me know if you 'd like to join us for dinner so I can book a table.
Hope to see you on Wednesday.
Best, Hannah

Dear all,
Sadly I'm going to miss our next BERG meeting (Wednesday 27 March), but I'm leaving you in the capable hands of Phyllis Lee who I think is going to search us out another interesting TED talk to fill the slot.

There is an afternoon of Statistical Modelling for Qualitative Researchers
Likely to be very useful!
The afternoon will be orientated towards researchers who do not normally use statistical methods but would like to be introduced to statistical modelling. It will be ideal for busy researchers who do not have time to go on longer workshops or courses. It will also be a useful refresher course for researchers whose last encounter with statistics was during their undergraduate degree. If you frequently skip over graphs and tables of modelling results when reading journal articles then you will benefit from attending this workshop.
Wednesday 1st May, 1-.30-4.30pm at the University of Edinburgh, through Aqmen (Applied Quantitative Methods Network)
Please see further details, and how to register, in the attached link.

I'm to blame, but we have decided to change the start time of our BERG meeting on Wednesday 1st May to 4.30pm - when Laura Hall will be speaking on a welfare assessment framework for dogs.
We shall remind you again nearer the time.
Best, Hannah
