Subject: Additional important information about 4/23 APS panel
Hello everyone,
Thank you again so, so much for your interest and participation in today's African Primatological Society's panel.
Just a couple of quick updates:
1) I resent a confirmation email to everyone this morning. This email comes from Zoom itself and contains the details for joining the meeting- a link and a password. Please check your email- you should have received this information directly from Zoom both at the time you registered and again this morning.
2) If you are unable to join us, we plan to record the meeting. If that recording is successful we will send it out to all participants as soon as it is available, usually within a day or two.
3) If you attempt to join us in the Zoom room, and it has reached the 300 participant limit, or if you prefer to watch online, we will be live streaming the panel through the African Primatological Society's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/African.Primatological.Society/
Thank you again so much for your interest, support, and ideas. We look forward to engaging with you today, and providing more events in the future.

Subject: Important information about 4/23 APS panel
Hello,
You're receiving this email because you registered to attend the African Primatological Society's (APS) panel on 4/23 via Zoom. Thank you so much for your support and interest. Upon registration, you should have received an email directly from Zoom with the link and password for attending the event. If you did not receive a confirmation email, please let me know and I will resend it from Zoom.
We are very excited about this event. In less than a week, almost 500 people have registered for the panel. We regret that our virtual conference room is limited to 300 participants. Now that we know there is significant interest and demand for virtual webinars and presentations like this one, we are working on some options to address this in planning future events.
We will open the Zoom connection at 1:30pm (13:30h) GMT, so please come early to increase your chance of being able to attend the event. The panel will begin at 2pm (14:00h) GMT. If you attempt to join the event, but the space is full, we invite you to email your questions to our moderators (Inza, inza.kone(a)gmail.com; Rachel, r.ashegbofe(a)gmail.com) and we will share them with the rapporteurs. We also plan to record the event and share it with all registrants.
Note that there may be some bandwidth and connection issues during the panel. This has been a common experience lately in video conferencing tools due to high demand on networks. Our panelists will be joining us by webcam so you can see them as they speak. We suggest that participants disable their own video, to help conserve bandwidth.
Again, thank you so much for taking time to join us for this very important conversation. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow, hearing from you by email if you are unable to join us, or connecting with you at a future event.

Subject: [BERG] Updates, and essential equipment request
Dear BERGers
Things move fast in this world! (And apologies for cross postings)
In this (long-ish) message you will find:
1) Essential equipment collection from Cottrell Building - deadline Thursday 23rd at 10am.
2) Primates series on TV
3) Petition to End the Global Trade in Wildlife
4) Survey on Pet Bereavement (men wanted!)
5) Survey on Interaction with & Attachment to Animals in the Covid-19 pandemic (INTACT).
6) BERG reminder, 22 April, 5pm
1) Essential equipment collection from Cottrell Building - deadline Thursday 23rd at 10am.
It is possible that we can get a collection of utterly essential research items from the Cottrell Building (walking distance from my house).
Please send me an email, with a) your office number, b) the item you request and a brief justification, and c) the location in the office where it will be found.
I hope I shall get access to your office (in which case a video link might be possible so send me your WhatApp number if it is tricky to locate), but it may be University staff that retrieve it.
Please note that this is not to prepare for future projects, but rather to help you continue with your research at home (e.g. a hard drive with key video data that you need to finish a paper).
I will then send the equipment on to you by post.
And no promises, but the coordinated collection approach has been approved, so I am hopeful.
2) Primates series on TV
Primates series is confirmed here in the UK to be airing on BBC One as follows:
EP 1 Secrets of Survival - Sunday 26th April 8.15pm<https://outlook.office.com/mail/compose/AAMkADNmOGNiMTkyLTMzODUtNDcyNy05NjZ…>
EP 2 Family Matters - Sunday 3rd May 8.15pm<https://outlook.office.com/mail/compose/AAMkADNmOGNiMTkyLTMzODUtNDcyNy05NjZ…>
EP 3 Protecting Primates – Sunday 10th May 8.15pm<https://outlook.office.com/mail/compose/AAMkADNmOGNiMTkyLTMzODUtNDcyNy05NjZ…>.
3) Petition to End the Global Trade in Wildlife
Please consider signing this petition to call on our world’s governments to permanently end the commercial trade and sale in markets of wild terrestrial animals for consumption worldwide
https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/endthetrade
Thanks!
4) Survey on Pet Bereavement (especially men wanted!)
Please consider helping a Masters student (about 15 mins)
<https://stirlingpsych.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6Kloix32uH5Czpb>
https://stirlingpsych.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6Kloix32uH5Czpb
5) Survey on Interaction with & Attachment to Animals in the Covid-19 pandemic (INTACT).
https://york.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3EocKkXGgmzoxE1 (about 10-15 mins)
The aim of the study is to investigate the role of interactions and relationships with animals in the context of Covid-19 social distancing measures, with a focus on human health, wellbeing and social connectedness. We will also explore how the current context may affect animal ownership and aspects of animal welfare/wellbeing and behaviour.
The survey will be open to adults who live in the UK, irrespective of whether they currently own pets, and will be easily accessible via a link to an online questionnaire, which will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Ethics approval for this project has been granted by the University of York ethics committee.
6) BERG Wednesday 22nd - earlier time of 5pm
22nd April (Earth Day), BERG will be at the earlier time of 5.00-5.45pm (please join from 4.55pm). The topic is the impact of the pandemic and lockdown on companion animals.
Suggested preparation - https://www.companionanimals.nz/covidupdates/
The reasons for the earlier time is because there an Online Panel Discussion: Ape Conservation and Zoonotic Diseases - April 22nd @ 6pm BST - Full details and how to register sent previously.
Here is the link to join BERG on Wed 22nd starting at 5pm.

Dear BERGers
Microsoft Teams
Teams – please do NOT Accept or Decline BERG, or be Tentative!. Happy to wait to see who shows up! (Important - if you are “external” you are very welcome but do let me know so I can invite you separately).
BERG - Privacy awareness issues with video conferencing
There’s probably a UoS document out there somewhere that says all this…..but here is my version delivered direct to your inbox.
The “Teams” video conferencing is the method that the University of Stirling, and many other organisations, use. I am assured it is end-to-end encrypted, and safe. (Unlike Zoom potentially– see "Zoom as Malware<https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2020/apr/02/zoom-technology-security…>" and recent University correspondence).
However, Teams still has some potentially very serious issue on privacy. I feel it is important we are aware of this new method of communication, and the potential consequences of its use. I leave it up to you to decide whether you want to be a virtual BERGer or await days when we are free again to enjoy the Psychology common room together again.
Here’s the ink for new subscribers (or to unsubscribe): http://lists.stir.ac.uk/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/berg
Privacy! We must be aware of what we are doing.
Video recording: I would never record a BERG meeting without informing you all in advance.
Photos: Anyone who can see your computer screen can take a photo/screen shot at any time. We must be aware of this. We have options, and each individual can choose their own response:
* If you do not want your face to be seen, use audio only (with no photo, or a photo of your choosing – you upload in your Microsoft Teams profile).
* If you allow Teams to access the video on your computer/phone, you have to trust us not to take photos without express permission (generally on the count of 1,2,3 say cheese/thumbs up etc!). Apart from being caught in an awful facial expression, I don’t think there is anything else we are doing that would compromise us. We do not share confidential or sensitive information during BERG.
* Please also be aware that we can see where you are – i.e. usually now we see into your home. Therefore think about what we can see in the background. Do you have an original Edwin Landseer<https://www.wikiart.org/en/edwin-henry-landseer/brazilian-marmosets-1842> on your wall that someone might see and target you for a burglary? I wish.
Audio:
* Anyone who is around you can hear you on the call, and if you are not wearing a headset they can hear us too. We do not know who is around so beware who you speak about (e.g. in ways you would not be happy for the person you are talking about to hear!). Sometimes we can see other people around you and hear them. Please make those around you aware of this (or mute your microphone when you are not speaking).
* Please use a headset if you have young kids around (this is in your control and safer than telling us to watch our language or topics of conversation). Or please go somewhere private. We have options – you choose what works for your situation.
I think all these issues have solutions. I shall try to remind everyone to be aware at the beginning of each video call. Or you remind me, please!
Hope to see some of you later, and please suggest edits/additions to this message as other issues arise. I’m learning!

Virtual BERG meeting. If you have a Stirling email address, access through the portal "Microsoft Teams cloud icon", and then select "Teams". If you are non-Stirling, please just email me let me know you want to come and I'll invite you! If you are a Mac user you cannot join, sadly.
This BERG meeting will be another catch up, as things develop so rapidly and impact us all. Please also think about any question you might have that would benefit from the wisdom and input from the group.....or any person we might invite to speak or topics for discussion in future.
I'll pop you all a note on privacy issues too (in email). Hope to see some of you tomorrow, Hannah
