Pierre was OIE Delegate until May 2011. On July 26th, 2013, Prof. Fisseha Gebreab, the founding Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Addis Ababa University passed away. He gained international recognition as Ethiopia's leading donkey expert and donkey welfare advocate. AVIS DE DÉCÈS Le samedi 22 juin, l'ancien Délégué du Burundi auprès de l'OIE, Pierre Bukuru, a été victime d'un tragique accident de la circulation qui lui a couté la vie. Pierre était Délégué de l’OIE jusqu’en mai 2011. Le 26 juillet 2013, le Professeur Fisseha Gebreab, Doyen fondateur de la Faculté de Médecine Vétérinaire de l’Université d’Addis Abéba est décédé. Il jouissait d’une renommée mondiale en tant qu’expert de l’espèce asine et ardent défenseur de la bientraitance de l’âne en Ethiopie. ________________________________ 81st OIE GENERAL SESSION During the opening session of the 81st General Session, held on May 26th in Paris, France, Dr Moetapele Letshwenyo, former OIE Delegate for Botswana and current Deputy-Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Member of the OIE ad hoc group on official status recognition for FMD, was awarded the 2013 OIE Medal of Merit<http://www.rr-africa.oie.int/en/news/20130601.html>, as appreciation for the ground breaking work he did on applied FMD zoning in Botswana, his contribution to the establishment of the OIE Sub-Regional Representation in Gaborone and his wealth of experience on FMD he shared with the members of the ad hoc group. The World Assembly adopted amendments to the Terrestrial Animal Health Code chapters on peste des petits ruminants (PPR) and classical swine fever (CSF) which list the conditions for official recognition by the OIE of a country free from these diseases (questionnaire). At its General Session annual side-meeting, the Regional Commission for Africa also elected a new Vice - President<http://www.rr-africa.oie.int/en/RC/en_organisation.html> to replace the Vice - President and former Delegate of Chad. He is the OIE Delegate from Togo, Dr Komla Batasse Daniel Batawui. The Regional Commission also welcomes new Delegates<http://www.rr-africa.oie.int/delegates.html> from Benin (Dr Orou Gounou N'gobi) and Ghana (Dr Philip Salia).
