We imported bulk knotless net rolls from China and used a commercial sewing machine to make the nets on site. We had 2 staff members from Nepal who knew how to sew. Fingerlings are moved to growout ponds and fed commercial pellet. Growout is to market size - anything between 0.5 and 2 kg. from 15 grams to 750 grams takes about 200 days in summer and at these salinities. Regards, Laurence. Nous avons 2 membres du personnel du Népal qui savaient coudre. Les alevins sont transférés dans les étangs de grossissement et de la Fed commercial granulés. We did not test the upper limit. 5220 fish in one cage, 3m x 4.8m x 1.2m @ 26.7grams = viable biomass Nets were manually cleaned during grading. Fish were typically held for 50 days. The groups own the cages and feed the fish collectively. Cage netting was sourced within Zambia. With technical support from by Self Help Africa, through a local NGO Siavonga Nutrition Group, the women started fish farming O. niloticus in 2013. Chirundu Bream Farm, 30-40 km away, supplied the fingerlings. Fish are mainly fed on commercially produced fish booster, fish starter, fish crumble and fish pellets, sourced within Zambia.
