Hi William
This is south of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, with a salinity between 40 and 48 ppt.
We imported bulk knotless net rolls from China and used a commercial sewing machine to make the nets on site. We had 2 staff members from Nepal who knew how to sew.
Fingerlings are moved to growout ponds and fed commercial pellet. Growout is to market size - anything between 0.5 and 2 kg. from 15 grams to 750 grams takes about 200 days in summer and at these salinities.
Regards,
Laurence.
Salut William
Cordialement,
Laurence.

Hi Titus
Using a similar nursery system, we easily carried 8.2 kg/m3 of barramundi fingerlings with airlift aeration. We did not test the upper limit.
5220 fish in one cage, 3m x 4.8m x 1.2m @ 26.7grams = viable biomass
Nets were manually cleaned during grading. Fish were typically held for 50 days.
Quantity | Parameter | Note |
141 | kg per cage | Estimated maximum biomass at size |
17.3 | m3 | volume of cage |
8.2 | kg/m3 | with 3 airlifts for aeration per cage |
27.0 | grams | maximum fish weight |
regards Laurence

William,
I would like to know the stocking density for these cages and how long
has the fish been in the cages. Were the cages installed in Lake,
reservoir or river? Do you mind posting a picture of the cage on this
forum? Do you see any prospects of sustainability for farmers after
the sponsoring organisations pull out? This is a very good initiative
for women.
