Dear SW,
Thanks for this information. I think the best would be for you t send me and Emmanuel the names of the people who expressed interest to attend the meeting. Although the major focus for the meeting is on African Universities involved in fisheries and aquaculture research, we have also set aside some slot for senior civil servants (policy-makers) as we hope to stimulate dialogue between universities and policy-makers on the best ways to reduce the fragmentation between centres of knowledge and policy-making. Universities and policy-makers from the Franco-phone Africa are encouraged to participate (I saw a message from Catherine from Cote d'Ivoire).
We certainly want to take advantage of the inputs from SARNISSA, which has a base at University of Malawi, to bring into this NEPAD- University Network the good lessons which SARNISSA is generating. Particularly, we want to draw on best practices from other parts of the world (Europe, Asia etc) which have links with SARNISSA.
I hope will is going to translate this into French for the rest of the network to understand.
Best regards,
Sloans

Dear Sloans, We have had a number of people from Cote D'Ivoire to S Africa (both in English and French) contacting us regarding the possibility of attending the NEPAD meeting in Malawi in April - please could you post a message to the SARNISSA list clarifying if it is possible or not for people to attend - and if so the contact details of how they should go about it. Perhaps it would be helpful if you can also inform people in west and/or east Africa if and when you will be having regional meetings for NEPAD in these areas.
Otherwise SARNISSA carried out three meetings /workshops in Yaounde at the end of February 1. An E training workshop - Setting up and running E workshops and meetings.
2. A West African SARNISSA stakeholder meeting including presentations from stakeholders (researchers, NGOs and fish farmers) from Cameroon, Benin, Cote D'Ivoire, DRC , Malawi, Kenya, followed by a session on project proposal writing towards successful funding applications and stakeholder collaborations.
3. The first annual SARNISSA Progress and Planning Meeting reviewing the first years progress and planning for years 2 and 3 of the project.
Emmanuel Kaunda represented NEPAD and will pass on feedback to you about NEPAD from the meetings. We would be grateful if you could pass on and disseminate these details above about our meetings to your NEPAD website. I can send on photos if you require them. Please also include our website address - www.sarnissa.org
Best wishes Will

Dear SW,
Good to hear from you; and thanks for the compliments. We will keep you informed about the outcomes of the consultations in Malawi. You may recall you were instrumental in assisting Malawi set up its first aquaculture capacity development initiative over 20 years ago.
Best regards,
Sloans

WOW! I was looking forward to participating in this but I have a prior engagement for this same week in my Institution.
I am hosting the Regional Meeting of the African Women in Agricultural research and Development (AWARD) meting from 19 - 24 April 2009 and as such I have to send my apologies. However, I wish the Group a very productive regional meeting in Malawi. I hope Dr. Slaons working with NEPAD on behalf of the WorldFish Center (a native of Malawi) will be at this first regional meeting of NEPAD-CTA.
Best regards to the initiators and participants. SW
