Dear all,
I am pleased to introduce Francesca Pietrangeli (CC'd here), a PhD student from the University of Tuscia, Italy. Francesca will be visiting our Division in August/September 2024 and again in March 2025.
Her research focuses on integrating urban and regional indicators to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of local and place-based policies aimed at improving the local environment and quality of life.
Francesca will have a desk in the School and is keen to connect with as many of us as possible. She is interested in participating in Economics Division and Behavioural Science seminars, activities, and workshops, as well as broader School-wide events.
Francesca is looking for accommodation for August and September, too. If you know of any opportunities, please reach out to both Francesca and me directly.
Best regards,
Mirko

Folks,
There are 3 overleaf accounts available for PhD students, these are available for you to use subject to some constraints. If you use LaTeX I strongly urge you to get one as it will make your life simpler and possibly improve supervision.
If I get more than 3 requests I will create some criteria to allocate these. But am minded to give them to more junior members of the programme.
Anyway, please let me know if you want one.
best,

Dear Econ and Behavioural Science folks!
Tim Cason from Purdue University—one of the keynote speakers at our 31 May workshop—will visit the Division a few days before the workshop. During his visit, he will be available for meetings and research discussions.
Tim is a leading expert in experimental economics, resource, and environmental economics. He has published in top journals, including those in the 'top 5'. What's important is that he is a very nice guy.
Tim will arrive on 29 May from the USA. If jet lag permits, he will be available that day and will be around on 30 May. He will be given a desk in office room 3B51, so feel free to come and say hi when you are around.
More information about Tim can be found on his website: [insert website link]. https://sites.google.com/view/tim-cason/research
I would invite PhD supervisors to encourage PhD students to meet one-on-one or in a small group with Tim.
Let me know if you want to meet and I will arrange.
Best wishes,
Mirko
PS: see the email below for more info about the workshop

Hi All,
I am uncertain if any of you would be interested in being tutor to Connor. He is looking for support in Year 2 Micro and Macro.
If you do take him up on his offer could you please get in touch with Connor and copy me in so I know this is resolved? Otherwise, I need to help find someone else.
The rates for tutoring can be set by you in agreement with Connor.
For some context, when I was a PhD I used to charge ~25/ph for Econometrics and Stats tutoring. I also have an email in my archive from 2013 (!) suggesting 15/ph to be a reasonable rate then. Adjust to inflation accordingly but I suppose something in the range 20-35 to be about right.
Best,
Hector

I can reach out to see if a current PhD might be interested, and if not as you suggest we can perhaps look for an alumnus to help.

Dear Colleagues,
We will be welcoming Corrado Di Maria (UEA) to present on "The effect of climate policy on productivity and cost pass-through in the German manufacturing sector" (joint with Beat Hintermann, Leo Picard, Maja Zarkovic and Ulrich Wagner) A paper will be circulated closer to the date.
Bio
Corrado is a Professor in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics. His broad research interests span environmental and natural resource economics, energy economics, the economics of growth and development as well as technological change. The key feature of his work is an emphasis on both theoretical and empirical aspects, as well as its policy relevance.
Corrado’s most recent research covers several aspects of the interaction between environmental policy and natural resource use, the taxation of exhaustible resources, emissions trading schemes and their efficiency-promoting features, the role of skills in the process of economic growth, and environmental policy in the presence of directed technological change. Students interested in any (or all) of these themes are welcome to get in touch to discuss the possibility of supervision.
Prior to joining the University of East Anglia, Corrado worked at the University of Birmingham, Queen's University Belfast, and the University College Dublin. He obtained his PhD degree from Tilburg University in the Netherlands, having previously studied in Rome, Milan and Vienna.
Corrado’s CV can be found here<https://www.uea.ac.uk/documents/953219/4739267/corrado-di-maria-cv.pdf/ea4b…>.
Schedule can be edited here: https://stir-my.sharepoint.com/:x:/g/personal/hg10_stir_ac_uk/ETm88dL1rHBMm…
As ever, I strongly urge you guys to sign up for slots to chat to Corrado. This is obviously important for faculty, but goes doubly so for PhD students. This is a unique opportunity to talk about your reach with others and you can gain some real insights by talking to others. Please do not be shy.
Dinner
We will also need volunteers to come out for dinner with Corrado. This invitation is also extended to PhDs (dinner is paid for by the division).
