The show claims that howler monkeys transmit yellow fever to humans – a myth that was debunked long ago. Yet in a recent outbreak in Brazil, people went on a rampage, killing howler monkeys out of fear of contracting the disease. A single Netflix “documentary” thus has the power to undermine a massive yellow-fever awareness and vaccination campaign and throw back years of conservation progress.
