Dear BERGers,
A quick reminder that this Wednesday (4pm) we have our first research seminar with Dr Alex Barrable (Quin Margaret University) giving a talk entitled "Nature connectedness: Latest research and walking ecosystems". Please see the abstract below. The meeting will take place in the Psychology Common Room (Cottrell Building, 3A94) and online.
Link to the meeting and a list of the forthcoming seminars are below.
Abstract:
Drawing upon the ideas of biophilia, our innate affinity with the natural world and nature connectedness, the construct that describes a positive relationship with nature, this talk will focus on some prior research around this, including disconnectedness, nature connection and psychological distress in the face of ecological catastrophe, and how reimagining ourselves not as isolated beings but as holobionts, walking ecosystems teeming with microbial life, can radically shift our relationship with the rest of the natural world.

Dear All,
I hope you are all well and had a nice summer. We are about to resume our BERG seminars, which run each Wednesday at 4pm, at the start of the semester. Below is the seminar timetable - we hope you can attend some of these seminars!
Our first meeting on September 17th will be held in person in the Psychology Common Room (3A94). We don't have a specific agenda for this one - it's just for catching up with each other, and for new members (e.g., our new MSc students) to be introduced. Please come by if you are around!

Dear BERGers,
The Association for Animal Behaviour (ASAB) winter conference is coming to Edinburgh again in December - it's FREE to register to attend, and still possible to submit an abstract to present a poster or talk. Based on previous years, it's likely to get booked up for in-person attendance fairly early, so best get in quick. It's a friendly conference, with plenty of early-career researchers (Masters, PhD's, postdocs) attending as well as more senior folk, and I am sure there will be a Stirling contingent going along (I've registered).
See below for links.
Best wishes,
Clare

Hello,
I’m reaching out on behalf of The British Carnivore Project at the University of Hull to share a free, illustrated booklet we’ve created, entitled Urban Tails, to encourage young people (ages 9–14) to engage more with local nature.
As towns and cities expand, many young people are losing interest in nature, affecting their well-being. Urban Tails aims to help inspire curiosity and care for the natural world, starting with one of the UK’s most familiar and beloved urban animals: the red fox.
The booklet features:
*
Six short stories about our two main characters, Alice and Jack, as they explore their city’s hidden wildlife
*
Interactive activities, games, and discussion questions
*
A glossary and overview of important conservation messages based on scientific research
*
Ready-to-use resources for educators, youth workers, and nature clubs
You can download a free PDF of Urban Tails here: https://www.blakemorton.co.uk/download/1293/?tmstv=1751992612
If you or your organisation is interested in using the booklet for any activities, please let us know as we’d be very happy to support you. Just get in touch at b.morton(a)hull.ac.uk<mailto:b.morton@hull.ac.uk>
We’d also be very grateful if you could please help us circulate the booklet by forwarding this email or posting the link to Urban Tails in any newsletters or social media platforms, if that is possible.
We hope you enjoy Urban Tails as much as we enjoyed creating it!
Kind regards,
Blake

Dear all,
I am sorry to inform that Alvaro just wrote me that he will not be able to give the talk today. He is feeling unwell and we will try to re-schedule it for the next semester. Apologies again and I hope you will have a great afternoon.
All the best,
Alex
