[Media-watch] Rachel Corrie

Dear Sir/Madam,

Tonight's Channel 4 News mentioned the shooting of a British Peace activist in Palestine - at the end of the brief report, mention was made of Rachel Corrie, the US Peace activist who died last month. The presenter stated that Rachel Corrie' was shot' by Israeli forces.

Rachel Corrie was not 'shot'. She was buried alive beneath the shovel of a US-made bulldozer in the course of a protest aimed at preventing the demolition of a Palestinian doctor's home. Her death was filmed, many photographs were taken and dozens of eye-witnesses have stated that she was deliberately killed. Her family were unable to get her body back home, and a memorial service two days after her murder was tear-gassed by IDF tanks. Exhaustive and harrowing detail regarding this whole episode can easily be found online.

It is unbelievable that Channel 4 News employs researchers who could possibly be unaware of these facts - to be fair, Channel 4 News has at least mentioned Rachel Corrie's death , but to misrepresent the circumstances of her murder is shameful.

Please do ensure that this message is forwarded to the editor of Channel 4 News and the presenter who was required to dictate such disinformation - immediate correction, if not an apology, is due. 

Many people in this country have been relying on Channel 4 News to 'push the envelope' as far as 'mainstream' critical analysis of this war is concerned - no-one benefits from sloppy and/or deliberately misleading reports. Please do better.
