I'm not sure whether the set of ecologically valid stimuli and FACS-coded stimuli don't have a null intersection...

>> PhD studentships in Face Recognition (2)
>> Applications are invited for two PhD studentships starting in October 2013, to work with Professor Mike Burton. Candidates should hold, or expect to achieve a First or Upper Second class degree in Psychology, or a Masters degree in a related subject. The studentships are funded by the European Research Council, and funding will cover UK/EU fees and a stipend at research council rates.
>> To apply, please make a formal enquiry through the FindAPhD website: studentship1<http://www.findaphd.com/ProjectDetails.aspx?PJID=44784>, studentship2<http://www.findaphd.com/ProjectDetails.aspx?PJID=44785>. Informal enquiries prior to application may be made to Mike Burton: m.burton at abdn.ac.uk<mailto:m.burton at abdn.ac.uk> or 01224 273930. The closing date is 17 May, 2013.
>> Further Information: These studentships will form part of a large-scale project on face recognition. We are very good at recognising the faces we know, but very poor when recognising or matching unfamiliar faces. This project represents an attempt to understand the cognitive and perceptual processes underlying the differences between familiar and unfamiliar face recognition. In particular, we will be studying the variability in different photos of the same face. One of the studentships will employ computational and statistical analysis of face images, and programming experience will be essential. The second studentship will focus on real-world face recognition, including forensic and security problems.
