> Further Information:  These studentships will form part of a large-scale project on face recognition. We are very good at recognising the faces we know, but very poor when recognising or matching unfamiliar faces. This project represents an attempt to understand the cognitive and perceptual processes underlying the differences between familiar and unfamiliar face recognition. In particular, we will be studying the variability in different photos of the same face. One of the studentships will employ computational and statistical analysis of face images, and programming experience will be essential. The second studentship will focus on real-world face recognition, including forensic and security problems.
