Siren -- Discussion list for colleagues interested in and/or involved with institutional research at the University of Stirling.

About Siren
English (USA)

The SIReN (Stirling Institutional Research Network) list provides an online forum for discussion and dissemination of information and experiences relating to institutional research undertaken at Stirling.

Establishment of SIReN recognises that colleagues researching in this field may often be working in isolation and may benefit from an opportunity to share their research interests/outcomes and experiences. The Network provides a vehicle to facilitate this process, enabling the exploration of available data and its most effective use for enhancing institutional decision-making about the student experience at Stirling.

Areas of activity explored within the arena of institutional research may vary considerably, however they are likely to cover issues such as:
• recruitment & admissions
• transitions (including into the first year of HE)
• student retention
• student diversity and equality of opportunity
• the student experience (including co-curricular, personal, social and career-related developments)
• the learning experience
• assessment and feedback etc.

Initially SIReN is likely to focus on students’ experiences of the first year at Stirling (although not exclusively). A wide range of engagements with institutional research will be encouraged through the network with a view to supporting the diverse interests and needs of its members.

The SIReN discussion list will supplement occasional, ad hoc face to face meetings, providing the opportunity for colleagues to participate selectively, according to their other commitments and their specific interests and areas of expertise.
