Soku is a Veterinary Doctor with a demonstrated history of work in the veterinary industry. He graduated from his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2018 from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. He has worked in several veterinary establishments (both clinic and laboratories) and field including fish farms where he worked on his thesis: Occurrence of bacteria in tilapia cultured in two fish farms within the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He subsequently worked with the fisheries laboratory in Ghana to aid in diagnostic works, notably, surveillance work in ISKNV, TiLV and Streptococcus agalactiae infection. His interest areas are bacteriological and virological works in fish, for which he is currently pursuing a Master’s degree program: MSc Aquatic Pathobiology, at the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling. I am looking forward to hearing and meeting other Sarnissa members (vets and others) who work on fish health in various countries as well as members working in fish farms in the past or presently have some issues with fish health or disease. My country, Ghana, has in recent times experienced some outbreaks of viral and bacterial diseases especially along the Volta Lake. With the advent of new viral diseases, it is important to keep alert in order to prevent the spread or introduction of new diseases. Even though these outbreaks are related to tilapias, I am keen on also hearing on other fish species like the African catfish. Soku est un médecin vétérinaire ayant une expérience confirmée du travail dans l'industrie vétérinaire. Il a obtenu son diplôme de docteur en médecine vétérinaire en 2018 à l'Université des sciences et technologies Kwame Nkrumah, au Ghana. Il a travaillé dans plusieurs établissements vétérinaires (cliniques et laboratoires) et sur le terrain, y compris dans des piscicultures où il a travaillé sur sa thèse: Présence de bactéries dans du tilapia élevé dans deux piscicultures de la région d'Ashanti au Ghana. Il a ensuite collaboré avec le laboratoire de la pêche du Ghana pour faciliter les travaux de diagnostic, notamment les travaux de surveillance des infections par ISKNV, TiLV et Streptococcus agalactiae. Ses domaines d’intérêt sont les travaux bactériologiques et virologiques sur les poissons, pour lesquels il poursuit actuellement un programme de maîtrise: Master en pathobiologie aquatique, à l’Institute of Aquaculture de l’Université de Stirling. J'ai hâte d'entendre et de rencontrer d'autres membres de Sarnissa (vétérinaires et autres) qui travaillent sur la santé des poissons dans divers pays, ainsi que des membres travaillant dans des exploitations piscicoles dans le passé ou à l'heure actuelle ont des problèmes de santé ou de maladie des poissons. Mon pays, le Ghana, a récemment connu des épidémies de maladies virales et bactériennes, en particulier le long du lac Volta. Avec l’apparition de nouvelles maladies virales, il est important de rester vigilant afin de prévenir la propagation ou l’introduction de nouvelles maladies. Bien que ces épidémies soient liées aux tilapias, je tiens également à entendre parler d’autres espèces de poissons comme le poisson-chat.
