Flavobacterium is the causative agent of columnaris disease that affects many species in many different environments.  Lately there are strains identified that are very pathogenic.  It should be quite an interesting subject for researchers in Africa, because I have seen signs of columnaris disease in most clarias and tilapia hatcheries that i have visited. Even for us here in Auburn, it a very problematic pathogen. Dr. Arias' lab  including Dr. Haitham Mohammed from Egypt) has been working with this pathogen for some years now and from looking at the past venues of this conference, so have many other labs.  Karen L. Dernièrement il ya souches identifiées qui sont très pathogène. Il devrait être un sujet très intéressant pour les chercheurs en Afrique, parce que je ai vu des signes de la maladie dans la plupart des columnaris clarias et écloseries de tilapia que je ai visités. Même pour nous ici à Auburn, un agent pathogène très problématique.
