Bonjour,

Hello,
Most breeders around me do get over 60% rate of survival of the fingerings.
My personal suggestion is stop the artemia feed you give the fries. It kills the fries.
I ll suggest you look for alternatives.

Good morning Koba
With clients and on our own R&D facility we have put enormous effort into perfecting the survival and growth rate of African catfish over the past years. I can tell you that there are several factors that are key to obtaining this, including optimising both water quality & feed, but even so a 50% survival is not realistic. If you get a 20% survival from egg to 1kg you are doing well.
Regards,
Leslie
Bonjour Koba

Merci

Hello everyone
Just to know if anyone can give me information on how to get a survival rate of at least 50% catfish fingerlings gariepinus.
Indeed, the hatching rate is good but already from the 3rd day of feeding decapsulated Artemia there are high mortalities and for the following days. And yet we also siphoned off water and replaced it (well water at pH = 5.3) for the larvae repeating this at least 2 times a day after the water had been well oxygenated.
At first I thought that the cause of the mortality of the fry could be either virus, bacteria, yeast or fungi. So I installed a 30 watt UV sterilizer through which the water passes before reaching the larvae but no improvement.
So if anyone has experience in this area I will be very willing to hear from you .
Thank you

Dear all
Please see below note how this simple yahoo email catfish farmers forum in Nigeria now with hundreds of members all over the country are buying and selling not just fingerlings and market fish but also inputs feed fertilisers etc also for questions and advice There is also a similar equally popular Nigerian catfish farmers mobile phone whats app group which has daily messages on the same subjects and thus huge networks of fish farmers communicating with each other on daily basis- In the last weeks on the catfish farmers app they have been discussing market process for their grow out fish and how they can potentially state and then country wide try to control prices - as their margins are ever declining due to the continually increasing prices per tonne of commercial feed in the country………………….
Please note this for sarnissa fish farmers in other countries - also for those involved in aquaculture development across SS Africa both govts and also national and international donors and investors - These email and mobile phone whats app networks cost next to nothing to set up and normally just the time of a dedicated individual to run them - And the impacts and concrete positive outcomes from them are huge ….
Best wishes Will
