The Impact Competition is a brilliant opportunity to highlight the excellent work being done by PhD students across Scotland, and we really want to receive applications from across the network. I would appreciate it if you could share the information below
across your PhD community and wider networks. We look forward to seeing lots of applications!
SGSSS Impact Competition 2025
Showcase your planned or achieved impact for the chance to win £500.
The 2025 SGSSS Impact Competition is now open for applications. The Impact Competition is an opportunity for PhD students to reflect on and showcase the meaningful difference that they are making through research and win £500.
It is open to all social science PhD students across Scotland, regardless of how you are funded, in two categories:

Planned Impact: PhD students in their 1st year of studies – the aim is to articulate how they intend to develop impact in the next years of your PhD.

Achieved impact: PhD students in their 2nd and 3rd year of studies - the aim is to showcase impact that they have generated in the last 12 months –through PhD research, an
internship, or a special project such as a cross-institutional collaboration.
