Oct 9th, 9.30am, S21 'An Introduction to Stirling University's electronic resources' book via Information Services xt 7250 Sarah Kevill, Information Services This will be a 2 hour session covering accessing and searching Stirling's electronic resources and using current awareness services. There will be the opportunity for hands on use of the resources with assistance from Subject Librarians. This would be suitable for all postgraduate research students. Oct 10th, 2pm, S21 'An Introduction to Stirling University's electronic resources' book via Information Services xt 7250 Oct 10th, 2pm, 2B129, 'Overseas student information session' Anne Pitcairn, International Student Advisor, Student It can feel quite daunting, arriving as a student in a different country to your own. To help with your transition, during the presentation, Anne will be talking about student life, adjusting to living in Scotland and a different culture, and useful information for international Students Oct 11th, 9.30, S21, 'An Introduction to Stirling University's electronic resources' book via Information Services xt 7250 Oct 11th, 4pm, LTA6 (then 5pm 1A13) Statistics 1: Exploring Data Analysis (part 1of a set of 10) Kate Howie, Computing Science & Maths Students normally attend for all 10 sessions, but may wish to attend only those sessions to build on their previous experience. Session 1: This is the crucial initial step in any data analysis. The appropriate graphical and numerical summaries will be discussed for different types of data and to answer different types of question Oct 11th, 3pm, S21 'Using online archival resources', book via Information Services xt 7250 Karl Magee, Information Services There is an increasing amount of information available about archives online. Access to documents is also becoming more common with major digitisation programmes providing on-screen access to material. This session will highlight the various online resources which help researchers to search for archival collections relevant to their areas of interest. It will also look at examples of the types of documents which are now available to view online, from nineteenth century census records to modern statistical datasets. It will be particularly suitable for social science, arts and humanities students. NB S21 is in the Library. 2B129 is accessed from the V-U courtyard (opp LTA5).
