Grants may be for research, study visits to China or research visits to the UK by Chinese academics. Eligible fields include: social sciences; science and technology; education economic reforms; contemporary law; governance, human rights and legal reform processes; creative industries. This scheme may provide funding for projects or research programmes of established members of academic staff, or it can provide postdoctoral experience for young researchers or encourage the establishment of research programmes by newly appointed university staff members. Applicants must hold an established academic post in a British, Irish or Dutch university or other institution of higher education. Grants usually last three years. This fund supports the study of non-classical archaeology and general history as deduced from comparative archaeology of the following countries: Asia Minor, Armenia, Caucasia, Persia, Mesopotamia, Syria, Palestine, Egypt, Arabia, Abyssinia, the Sudan to West Africa, the Sahara, Cyrenaica, Tripoli and its islands, Algeria, Morocco, with preference given to the first nine.
