Colt Foundation Fellowships
Colt Foundation Fellowships in Occupational/Environmental Health The Foundation awards fellowships each year to persons carrying out research within the area of occupational and environmental health. The research is expected to lead to a PhD degree. Applications are now invited for the 2004 Fellowships. The grant is for three years, with a first year rate of £15,000, and the grant does not attract tax. In recent years grants have been made in respect of: * Chemical structure of substances that can cause occupational asthma * The effects of intermittent or prolonged exposure to environmentally relevant UV radiation in mammalian cells * The positive work environment and its effect on employee health * A molecular approach to understanding the mechanism(s) of silica-induced lung carcinogenesis * Temperature-related mortality in New Delhi and Cape Town * Molecular rearrangements under low-level microwave irradiation Applications are invited from prospective students who are qualified in science or medicine and should include an outline of the proposed research, a CV, a letter of support from the proposed supervisor and the contact details of two referees. The application must be submitted by the student personally. A shortlist will be drawn up and applicants selected for the shortlist will be asked to come for interview at the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians in London in early December 2003.
