This session
examines the techniques and pathways by which graduate students may achieve
publication of their research output. The session will cover each stage of the
process, including the identification and targeting of potential publishers, the
writing and presentation of proposals in an increasingly competitive academic
marketplace, and the conversion of thesis materials into publishable texts.
Three categories of academic publishing will be considered: books,
journal articles, and essays for edited volumes. John Field has published many
examples of each, and regularly reviews book and article proposals for major
academic publishers in the
