Meet the Scientist offers:
- A real opportunity to take on the challenge of communicating what you do to a non-scientific audience
- Transferable-skills training from experienced science communicators in a relaxed and informal setting
- Access to and examples of a number of different strategies and techniques that could be used to communicate your science
- An opportunity to meet and work alongside scientists from other fields
- A chance to get a new perspective on your work.
On 16-17 January, the Royal Museum, Edinburgh, is hosting a two-day training event for prospective ‘Meet the Scientist’ researchers.
Practical follow-up from a mentor will then help you to develop your skills to enable you to communicate your science in a way you feel comfortable with. The museum will also provide guidance about the type of event and audience to aim for and practical help setting it up – this could include advice in applying for an EPSRC PPE award.
The only cost will be your time: the EPSRC is investing in this initiative to support the Council’s mission of improving public awareness of leading research and its impact on society.
