CNBC maintains are fairly extensive stimulus repository, including the tarrlab face stimuli (face-place.org). See:

http://stims.cnbc.cmu.edu/

I am happy to add links to other databases if you send me the link and short description. Moreover, if you have a database of stimuli you would like to distribute, we are happy to host it - we have a very extensive and well maintained server system, so we do provide a stable and secure locale for keeping such things (e.g., URL won't change once set, etc.)

Secondly, for anyone collecting face images with affect, please see the face-place images. We used a method suggested by Alice O'Toole - having subjects watch movies and video taping them in the process. Using the right movie clips, we are able to prompt very realistic expressions - much more compelling than the FACS faces (which look like cartoons). We have a CD of movies clips and a protocol that one is welcome to use, but it is probably dated in that the clips are now 5 or so years old and maybe not what is currently considered funny or scary or disgusting (and maybe never were in the UK)

Best, Mike

Hi Everyone

I am contacting you all on behalf of Professor Gillian Rhodes, from the University of WA, who is looking for some Asian faces (preferably Chinese) with unambiguous emotion expressions (anger, happy, neutral) for a research project investigating the effects of race and expression on the interpretation of eye-gaze. So far we have faced difficulties locating Chinese faces with expressions that fit our requirements; if anyone knows of any faces such information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Ainsley

Dear all,

first off, thanks to Peter for getting things going - I think this list is a great idea!

Also, I like the webpage suggestion and would be more than happy to create and host it. We can make a public and a private version of the page, so that contact details are only available to list subscribers. As for the content, I would envision a collection of links (e.g., labs, databases) as well as the member profiles. The profiles should be searchable and sortable and possibly might contain affiliation, bio, research interests, and key bibliography.
Of course, the final format is up to the list to decide :) - I am happy to help set up this resource...

As for my background, I graduated from the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics working on computer vision & face recognition under the supervision of Heinrich B?lthoff. Together with my colleague Christoph Dahl, I also did a few studies comparing macaque and human face perception recently, which might be of interest to some on the list. My current interests lie in perception of facial expressions, comparing human and computer face recognition performance, as well as multi-sensory face recognition.

Best regards from Korea and hoping for a lively list

Christian

How many? I'm about to start recruiting Chinese sitters for a 3D database that I'm building, so if no one else has such already, I might be able to get them to pose some expressions while they're in the booth.

Peter
