We're working on a database of children's faces (The Dartmouth Database of
Children's Faces). It's not FACS coded, but contains images of 40 male and 40
female models between the ages of 6 and 16. Models are photographed on a black background
and are wearing black bibs and black hats to cover hair and ears. They are photographed
from 5 different camera angles and pose 8 different facial expressions. Models were rated
by independent raters and are ranked for the overall believability of their poses.

Hi folks - sorry to bombard the board, but just to note that the latest post is actually
not a repeat of yesterday's - despite the topic heading - it is for postgraduate
studentships, also available on this project.
best,
Mike

Dear all - Please find an advert for PhD studentships in face recognition. I'd be
grateful if you could bring this to the attention of any suitable candidates.
best,
Mike Burton
----
University of Aberdeen
School of Psychology
PhD studentships in Face Recognition (2)
Applications are invited for two PhD studentships starting in October 2013, to work with
Professor Mike Burton. Candidates should hold, or expect to achieve a First or Upper
Second class degree in Psychology, or a Masters degree in a related subject. The
studentships are funded by the European Research Council, and funding will cover UK/EU
fees and a stipend at research council rates.
To apply, please make a formal enquiry through the FindAPhD website:
studentship1<http://www.findaphd.com/ProjectDetails.aspx?PJID=44784>84>,
studentship2<http://www.findaphd.com/ProjectDetails.aspx?PJID=44785>85>. Informal
enquiries prior to application may be made to Mike Burton:
m.burton@abdn.ac.uk<mailto:m.burton@abdn.ac.uk><mailto:m.burton@abdn.ac.uk> or
01224 273930. The closing date is 17 May, 2013.
Further Information: These studentships will form part of a large-scale project on face
recognition. We are very good at recognising the faces we know, but very poor when
recognising or matching unfamiliar faces. This project represents an attempt to understand
the cognitive and perceptual processes underlying the differences between familiar and
unfamiliar face recognition. In particular, we will be studying the variability in
different photos of the same face. One of the studentships will employ computational and
statistical analysis of face images, and programming experience will be essential. The
second studentship will focus on real-world face recognition, including forensic and
security problems.
