BERG Impact meeting 12th March, 4-5pm Psychology Common room
Morning all! Tomorrow's BERG meeting (4-5pm, Psych common room) is dedicated to discussing the individual impact submissions made to Paul Hibbard from Gema (bees), Pawel (snare-free), Paws for Progress, and one on welfare assessment (lead by Kristine Gandia) and one from me on welfare legislation. All welcome - the meeting will also be a good time to hear about any other impact or engagement activity that has not yet been captured. As it will be a discussion, no hybrid option is available, but do get in touch if you wish a separate meeting about impact. Hope to see you tomorrow! Best, Hannah Hannah M. FYI: Funded PhD to work on mental time travel in chimps and children in an interdisciplinary project with philosophers and psychologists (me)! Please, distribute! We are advertising a PhD Scholarship in philosophy working on mental time travel in humans and non-human animals. The position will have an interdisciplinary focus, working with both comparative psychologists and philosophers to probe mental time travel in human children and chimpanzees. This is a unique opportunity. The successful candidate will be supported in working with children and chimpanzees to undertake empirical work on mental time travel. To that end, we seek a highly motivated candidate with a good knowledge and interest in philosophy (particularly philosophy of mind or time) and comparative psychology and/or evolutionary biology as well as a detail-oriented way of working, patience and a strong sense of responsibility. Experience conducting cognitive experiments with great apes, other primates or other animals is highly desirable. We are looking for a candidate that is able to work independently and has excellent team working skills. The candidate would ideally also have a solid background in multivariate statistical analyses in R. Data collection with chimpanzees will take place in Africa, and candidates should carefully judge their capacity to be exposed to a life in an isolated place conducting demanding work on a day to day basis. Candidates must be physically fit, resistant to psychological stress, self motivated, and tolerant of different social customs and belief. Information about the sanctuary where research will take place can be found here https://janegoodall.ca/what-we-do/africa-programs/tchimpounga/<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/Lg0YCxngwOfQVRXMkt8flUyJKCb?domain=janegoodall.ca/> More information about the scholarship is available at the link below, but interested parties should contact Kristie Miller @ Kristie.miller@sydney.edu.au<mailto:Kristie.miller@sydney.edu.au> before applying, to discuss PhD proposals and the requirements of this position. https://www.sydney.edu.au/scholarships/b/scholarship-in-mental-time-travel-i... ________________________________ From: Hannah Buchanan-Smith <h.m.buchanan-smith@stir.ac.uk> Sent: 11 March 2025 08:37 To: berg Mailing List <berg@lists.stir.ac.uk> Subject: [BERG] BERG Impact meeting 12th March, 4-5pm Psychology Common room Morning all!
