Dear All, The next BERG meeting will be a little different - we'll be holding a journal club-style session to discuss a paper. This meeting will take place in person in the common room and will be led by Kreso, who will follow up soon with further details. We hope to see you there! Dear All, It seems Kreso's message didn't go though, so I am forwarding it: -------------------------------------------------- Hi all, Pawel kindly offered using this slot to trial run a journal club format, and I'll lead the first one! For this Wednesday, if you would like to participate, please read: Warren, E., Pilgrim, C., Aellen, M., Morford, J., Mann, R. P., Biro, D., & Krupenye, C. (2025). Chimpanzees spontaneously prepare for mutually exclusive possibilities, and collective context strengthens this behaviour. Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London B: Biological Sciences, 381(1984), 20240444. https://doi.org/10.1098/rstb.2024.0444 There seem to be issues with the mailing list and attachments, so if you need a pdf of the paper, reply to me privately and I'll send it to you. This meeting will be in person only. Wednesday is a bit short notice (now I realise) but if you manage to skim it to the point of following discussion, that'll be enough. I will do a short summary at the start, and then we can go on with discussion. At the end of the meeting, I'll gather interest in participation, and we should discuss logistics for a regular meeting of this format (independent of BERG meetings). If you want to help choose a convenient time slot, that's more reason to come on Wednesday! For students who may not have participated in journal clubs before: this is a loosely structured discussion format where one person summarises a paper and kicks off a discussion. Read the paper critically, make note of what you think is remarkable and worth attention. Journal clubs have a big formative component, so you can also think of it as an exercise in critical reading. Please do come, the paper seems interesting and I'll make it fun and accessible. Best, Kreso Best wishes, Pawel ------------------------------- Dr Pawel Fedurek (he/his) Senior Lecturer in Psychology Behaviour and Evolution Research Group (BERG) School of Psychology, Faculty of Natural Sciences University of Stirling Stirling, FK9 4LA Scotland, UK @pawel-fedurek<https://bsky.app/profile/pawel-fedurek.bsky.social> @berg-stirling<https://bsky.app/profile/berg-stirling.bsky.social> Staff webpage<https://www.stir.ac.uk/people/1080868> | BERG webpage<https://www.stir.ac.uk/about/faculties/natural-sciences/our-research/research-groups/behaviour-and-evolution-research-group/> I aim to reply within 3 working days (my working days are between Monday and Friday). ________________________________ From: Pawel Fedurek <pawel.fedurek@stir.ac.uk> Sent: 19 October 2026 08:01 To: berg Mailing List <berg@lists.stir.ac.uk> Cc: Kresimir Durdevic <kresimir.durdevic@stir.ac.uk> Subject: [BERG] BERG meeting, Wednesday 16:00 (common room) Dear All, The next BERG meeting will be a little different - we'll be holding a journal club-style session to discuss a paper.
