Dear BERGers
REMINDER of our BERG seminar on Wild Cognition today - Wednesday 22nd September. It starts
at 3pm - earlier than normal - and will be finished by 5pm latest.
Deborah Bruce was initially scheduled to contribute, but sadly she is currently poorly, so

Wednesday 22nd September 15.00 -17.00hrs on Teams (link below)
There will be a series of short presentations, followed by questions and then a
discussion
Hannah Buchanan-Smith - Introduction: Wild Cognition, Welfare & Cognitive Enrichment
Blake Morton (University of Hull) - Understanding brain-behaviour relationships in wild
mesocarnivores
Clare Andrews - Gulls Eye project: gull behaviour patterns and human perspectives on gulls
around the UK
Pawel Fedurek and Gema Martin-Ordas - Vocal behaviour and cognition of the carrion crow –
some research ideas
Potential discussion points
1. Why might captive and wild cognition differ?
2. What are the main benefits of wild cognition studies compared to, or in combination
with captive?
3. What are the main challenges from wild cognition studies compared to captive?
4. Are there links/lessons from mobile cognition in humans, and what
technology/wearable might be of use (eg eye tracking, wearables for dogs to study
dog-human interactions?)
5. What are the potential research opportunities/collaborations?
