Subject: [BERG] Updates, and essential equipment request
Dear BERGers
Things move fast in this world! (And apologies for cross postings)
In this (long-ish) message you will find:
1) Essential equipment collection from Cottrell Building - deadline Thursday 23rd at
10am.
2) Primates series on TV
3) Petition to End the Global Trade in Wildlife
4) Survey on Pet Bereavement (men wanted!)
5) Survey on Interaction with & Attachment to Animals in the Covid-19 pandemic
(INTACT).
6) BERG reminder, 22 April, 5pm
1) Essential equipment collection from Cottrell Building - deadline Thursday 23rd at
10am.
It is possible that we can get a collection of utterly essential research items from the
Cottrell Building (walking distance from my house).
Please send me an email, with a) your office number, b) the item you request and a brief
justification, and c) the location in the office where it will be found.
I hope I shall get access to your office (in which case a video link might be possible so
send me your WhatApp number if it is tricky to locate), but it may be University staff
that retrieve it.
Please note that this is not to prepare for future projects, but rather to help you
continue with your research at home (e.g. a hard drive with key video data that you need
to finish a paper).
I will then send the equipment on to you by post.
And no promises, but the coordinated collection approach has been approved, so I am
hopeful.
2) Primates series on TV
Primates series is confirmed here in the UK to be airing on BBC One as follows:
EP 1 Secrets of Survival - Sunday 26th April
8.15pm<https://outlook.office.com/mail/compose/AAMkADNmOGNiMTkyLTMzODUtN…
EP 2 Family Matters - Sunday 3rd May
8.15pm<https://outlook.office.com/mail/compose/AAMkADNmOGNiMTkyLTMzODUtN…
EP 3 Protecting Primates – Sunday 10th May
8.15pm<https://outlook.office.com/mail/compose/AAMkADNmOGNiMTkyLTMzODUtN…3D>.
3) Petition to End the Global Trade in Wildlife
Please consider signing this petition to call on our world’s governments to permanently
end the commercial trade and sale in markets of wild terrestrial animals for consumption
worldwide
https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/endthetrade
Thanks!
4) Survey on Pet Bereavement (especially men wanted!)
Please consider helping a Masters student (about 15 mins)

https://stirlingpsych.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6Kloix32uH5Czpb
5) Survey on Interaction with & Attachment to Animals in the Covid-19 pandemic
(INTACT).
https://york.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3EocKkXGgmzoxE1 (about 10-15 mins)
The aim of the study is to investigate the role of interactions and relationships with
animals in the context of Covid-19 social distancing measures, with a focus on human
health, wellbeing and social connectedness. We will also explore how the current context
may affect animal ownership and aspects of animal welfare/wellbeing and behaviour.
The survey will be open to adults who live in the UK, irrespective of whether they
currently own pets, and will be easily accessible via a link to an online questionnaire,
which will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Ethics approval for this project has
been granted by the University of York ethics committee.
6) BERG Wednesday 22nd - earlier time of 5pm
22nd April (Earth Day), BERG will be at the earlier time of 5.00-5.45pm (please join from
4.55pm). The topic is the impact of the pandemic and lockdown on companion animals.
Suggested preparation -

The reasons for the earlier time is because there an Online Panel Discussion: Ape
Conservation and Zoonotic Diseases - April 22nd @ 6pm BST - Full details and how to
register sent previously.
