Hello BERGers I am going to take over from Christine in organising the autumn series of BERG meetings. These will take place on Wednesdays from 17.30hrs in Stirling, and will likely start on Wednesday 21st September. I'll start soliciting offers of talks in early September - please get in touch before I have to beg/knobble folk! Another talk of interest is on 12th September, in Edinburgh. Prof Michael Huffman visiting from the University of Kyoto will give a talk entitled "Chimpanzee use of plants as medicine and the evolution of self-medication in primates and other animals" (exact location, and time confirmed later). His talk is part of the Wellcome Trust grant, "Living Links to Human Biology and Medicine", a joint project with Prof Andrew Whiten and Dr Mark Bowler (St Andrews), Stephen Woollard (RZSS) and myself. There will be another three talks on the overall theme of "Living Links to Human Biology, Mind and Medicine" which I'll send you details of, as and when. Dear all, Just a reminder about tomorrow's BERG meeting. Staff from Blair Drummond Safari Park (including their director of research, Alasdair Gillies) will be coming along to talk about final year projects which are available at the Park for next academic year. Also, we will have a short presentation from one of our project students from this year, Krystal French, who collected data on the animals in the Pets Farm at Blair Drummond. PSGB Spring meeting - Evolution of the Modern Primatologist

See ne-mail below from Sean about the PSGB meeting. Do try to go (best to register!). Dear friends/colleagues Evolution of the Modern Primatologist (PSGB spring conference, Liverpool) is shortly upon us. I hope you can make it. Please encourage your colleagues and your students to attend. It will be great if we can get a really good turn-out representing Stirling at the meeting. We think it's going to be unlike any other psgb spring conference that you might have attended before. We've taken the best elements from previous meetings, put them into ours, and sprinkled on some more good bits. We have world class invited speakers, a great mix of experienced researcher and student talks and a fine (and numerous) complement of poster presentations. For the first time there's a dedicated poster session scheduled. Another first is for poster presenters to have a session of their own at the podium; each presenter will have a turn to briefly address the delegates to highlight their research. See the schedule on the website; there's something for everyone! And if that isn't enough lunch is complimentary on both days of the meeting; and our ice cream sponsor is providing free ice cream at the evening social event to go with the complimentary glass of wine from the evening venue hosts. How well will your monkey team do in the quiz? Oh, and all that comes after the wine reception in the splendour of the VGM. If you come a day before or stay the day after, you can go to Chester Zoo for free (must register for conference and with zoo in advance, see website for details).
