Sophia Daoudi-Simison for ASAB communications officer

Hi everyone, Sophia Daoudi-Simison is running for the communicaitons officer role in ASAB. If you are a member, these are her plans for the role below! Sharon As an early career lecturer, I am keen to gain more experience and contribute as a council member of ASAB, and in particular for the above role of communications officer. In terms of my own experience, during my PhD I was in charge of the social media profiles (e.g. Facebook and Twitter) of the Behaviour and Evolution Research Group (University of Stirling), advertising talks for weekly meetings, staff and student achievements, conferences and grant opportunities. Furthermore, when co-organising the Scottish Conference on Animal Behaviour, I designed the event webpage, conference applications (abstract submissions and payment), as well as monitoring email enquiries. More recently as a PostDoc at Newcastle University I actively contributed to the organisation and advertising of the Spring 2022 meeting (and I designed the logo). I believe that my existing skill set and enthusiasm for animal behaviour research make me an ideal candidate. Wish me luck! Informal UFAW Conference 'hublet' for BERG (20-21 June)

To make things a bit more social, I'm organising an informal 'hublet' (AKA watch party) in the Psychology Common Room 20 June and 21 June for those registered to attend the conference to tune in together. The idea is that we join together in real life to watch the talks together and have the sorts of informal discussions that we might at an in-real-life conference. Now, you might not even have a dog, let alone a reactive one, but hear me out before you stop reading... 😍 Although the topic of this summit is dog reactivity, what the more than 20 invited experts (and yes, yours truly being one of them) will discuss are things like: * how to build a good relationship with the animal in your care * how we can prevent or reduce unwanted behaviour by addressing emotional needs So, this summit isn't so much about how we can use *training* to prevent or reduce reactivity, but rather the foundational work that helps the animal learn resilience and how to cope living with us humans. This is an area that I've been increasingly intrigued by in the last few years, and I'm really eager to hear what the other presenters have to share on this topic. I'm familiar with about half of them and can vouch for them: they're exceedingly good at what they're doing, and they truly care about animals and their people - so I'm excited to learn from the unfamiliar names, too!
