Subject: Dates for your diary: SPRG Burn week end
Dear all,
Our annual SPRG Burn weekend will take place on 24-26 January 2013. Please save the date! For those of you new to SPRG, this is a chance for all members to get together in the beautiful surroundings of The Burn, to discuss research that is going on within our group, and of course to eat, drink, and be (very) merry. You can find more details about the venue on their website (http://www.goodenough.ac.uk/the_burn.htm).
I will email with more information nearer the time - but if you already know that you would like to attend, please send me an email to that effect, let me know if you would like to give a short informal talk, provide any dietary requirements, and kindly deposit £50 into my bank account via internet transfer. It would be really great to get enough early bookings to pay the deposit.
My account details are as follows:
Nicolas Claidiere
Account number: 10137051
Sort code: 83-19-04
Bank address:

I will send more details and another reminder later in the year.
Best wishes,
Nico

Here is an opportunity for funding for undergraduate and MSc students. We have had success in the past, so worth considering....
All details in attached.

Dear LINK,
You will be pleased to hear that applications are now being invited for this year’s UFAW Animal Welfare Student Scholarships awards. As a LINK university your students are eligible to apply for this scholarship, the closing date for applications for which is: 28th February 2014.
The aim of this scheme is to enable students to pursue their interests in animal welfare and to provide them with the opportunity to conduct their own relevant research or other (e.g. educational) projects. Students will usually be undertaking courses in the agricultural, biological, psychological, veterinary or zoological sciences. However, we would also welcome applications from students from other disciplines and who are interested in carrying out a project in animal welfare. MSc students are also welcome to apply.
Projects must be relevant to improving the welfare of farm, laboratory, companion, zoo, or free-living wild animals whose welfare is compromised by human factors, and may be carried out within the UK or overseas (the project undertaken may be part of the students course). Successful applicants will be awarded up to UK £1600 to cover subsistence and project expenses. Please visit the following UFAW website for further information or to download an application form: http://www.ufaw.org.uk/vacationScholarshipawards.php.
In addition, applications are also being invited for Dorothy Sidley Awards, offered by UFAW’s sister charity the Humane Slaughter Association. Details of these awards can be found here: http://www.hsa.org.uk/Dorothy%20Sidley%20Home.htm
Please feel free to circulate this email to any students or supervisors at your university/institution that you think may be interested.
Finally, if you haven’t already let me know how many copies of our annual report you would like for the new academic year, I would be grateful if you could. Thank you.
With best wishes
Steve

Hello all,
This week we have Lara Wood coming over to give us a talk. Lara has recently started as the new postdoc/research coordinator at Living Links in Edinburgh, having finished a PhD at Durham earlier this year. Lara is going to be telling us about some of her PhD work on social learning in her talk: "Who shall I copy? Model-based biases in children and chimpanzees' social learning".
If anyone would like to join us for some food after the talk, please let me know. We'll probably just go to the Macrobert to keep it convenient for everyone.
The meeting will start as per usual at 5.30pm in the Psychology common room (3A94), with drinks and nibbles.
Christine.
