Dear colleagues,

This is a gentle reminder that our workshop on "Behavioural Science and Digital Markets Regulation” takes place this Friday, 20th of October, between 10:00 and 17:15 in the Court Room.

For those of you who have already signed up, see you in two days!

For those of you who haven’t, there is still time to reconsider. The line-up of speakers is excellent, and we have roughly a dozen attendees from CMA, FCA, Ofcom, and Ofgem who will make the trip to Stirling. You are also more than welcome to join for a few sessions if you cannot make it for the entire day.

Dear colleagues,

[Sorry for cross-posting]

I am extremely pleased to announce that the Behavioural Science Centre is hosting a one-day workshop on "Behavioural Science and Digital Markets Regulation” on Friday, 20 October 2023.

The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers interested in behavioural regulatory policy and practitioners from the field (such as CMA, FCA, Ofgem, Ofcom, BIT).

The list of seven speakers is book-ended by two absolute powerhouses in the field:
  • Fiona Scott Morton (Yale) serves as the Theodore Nierenberg Professor at Yale School of Management and was appointed Chief Economist of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition (but that is a story for another day). Prior to this, she served as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Economics at the United States Department of Justice Antitrust Division.
  • Amelia Fletcher CBE (East Anglia & CMA) is a Professor of Competition Policy, Non-Executive Director of CMA, and member of the Enforcement Decision Panel at Ofgem. Her past roles include Non-Executive Director of FCA, HM Treasury-commissioned Digital Competition Expert Panel Chief Economist, and Senior Director at the Office of Fair Trading. She was appointed OBE (in 2014) and CBE (in 2020) for her services to economic policy and the economy.

The lineup is complemented by five further speakers who are leading experts in their fields:
  • Pete Lunn (Founder and head of ESRI’s Behavioural Research Unit & Adjunct Professor at Trinity College Dublin)
  • Elisabeth Costa (Managing Director of BIT)
  • Laura Smart (Senior Economist at CMA, formerly leader of the Behavioural Economics and Design Unit at FCA)
  • Stuart Mills (Leeds University & LSE Fellow)
  • Philip Newall (University of Bristol & Advisory Board Member of the Gambling Commission)

We are expecting further attendants from CMA, FCA, Ofgem, and Ofcom. This will be a fun event, and I hope to see many Stirling colleagues on the day as well.

  • Admission is free, and the event is catered (lunch; tea and coffee; drinks and snacks)
  • Location: Cottrell Building (Court Room)

Should you have any questions, please get in touch with me (till.stowasser@stir.ac.uk)

Oh, and feel free to circulate this email in your network as you see fit.

Thank you and best wishes,
Till
