Dear Till,
I hope this email finds you well. Many thanks again for organising the workshop last week – I and my colleagues from the FCA found it incredibly interesting and useful for our work.
I wanted to make you aware of a job we’re currently recruiting for within the Behavioural Economics & Design Unit (BDU), which may be relevant for any recent/ soon-to-be completing PhD candidates in behavioural/ experimental economics (or similar) at Stirling (or elsewhere).
We’re currently hiring for a full time, permanent, Lab Manager role, for someone to oversee the teams’ in-house experiment capabilities. This role is broader than typical academic ‘lab manager’ roles. While it would predominantly involve designing and coding experiments as well as managing the lab, the candidate would have the opportunity to develop wider stakeholder engagement skills as a member of the BDU team.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their experimental design and coding skills while gaining valuable experience conducting online and field experiments within the heart of a regulator. Because of this we think it could be a great role for a recent behavioural/ experimental economics (or similar) PhD candidate looking to get applied experience and develop wider stakeholder skills. We typically use oTree and Qualtrics for our online experiments but experience with these specific platforms is not required.
It would be great if you could share this opportunity with anyone you think would be interested. I would also be more than happy to have an informal conversation with anyone who might be interested if they wish to reach out.
The role profile can be found here: Lab manager (senior associate) position<https://fca.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/FCA_Careers/details/Behavioural-Ins…>. The advert closes on November 7th, and the initial application process just requires submission of a CV.
Best wishes,
Cameron

Hi all,
We are delighted that Carl Singleton, who will be joining the economics division in January, is visiting campus next week.
Carl will present a paper that is of particular interest to the behavioural science group - 2-3pm in room 4b96, Tuesday 31 2-3pm.
The title of his paper is "Gambling on Momentum in Contests" and it is about a behavioural bias in forecasting. It uses sports betting to demonstrate an illusion of momentum.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Dave

Dear colleagues,
[Sorry for cross-posting]
I am extremely pleased to announce that the Behavioural Science Centre is hosting a one-day workshop on "Behavioural Science and Digital Markets Regulation” on Friday, 20 October 2023.
The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers interested in behavioural regulatory policy and practitioners from the field (such as CMA, FCA, Ofgem, Ofcom, BIT).
The list of seven speakers is book-ended by two absolute powerhouses in the field:
* Fiona Scott Morton<https://som.yale.edu/faculty-research/faculty-directory/fiona-m-scott-morton> (Yale) serves as the Theodore Nierenberg Professor at Yale School of Management and was appointed Chief Economist of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition (but that is a story for another day). Prior to this, she served as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Economics at the United States Department of Justice Antitrust Division.
* Amelia Fletcher CBE<https://research-portal.uea.ac.uk/en/persons/amelia-fletcher> (East Anglia & CMA) is a Professor of Competition Policy, Non-Executive Director of CMA, and member of the Enforcement Decision Panel at Ofgem. Her past roles include Non-Executive Director of FCA, HM Treasury-commissioned Digital Competition Expert Panel Chief Economist, and Senior Director at the Office of Fair Trading. She was appointed OBE (in 2014) and CBE (in 2020) for her services to economic policy and the economy.
The lineup is complemented by five further speakers who are leading experts in their fields:
* Pete Lunn<https://www.esri.ie/people/pete-lunn> (Founder and head of ESRI’s Behavioural Research Unit & Adjunct Professor at Trinity College Dublin)
* Elisabeth Costa<https://www.bi.team/people/elisabeth-costa/> (Managing Director of BIT)
* Laura Smart<https://www.fca.org.uk/insight/author/laura-smart> (Senior Economist at CMA, formerly leader of the Behavioural Economics and Design Unit at FCA)
* Stuart Mills<https://business.leeds.ac.uk/departments-economics/staff/1798/dr-stuart-mil…> (Leeds University & LSE Fellow)
* Philip Newall<https://research-information.bris.ac.uk/en/persons/philip-w-s-newall> (University of Bristol & Advisory Board Member of the Gambling Commission)
We are expecting further attendants from CMA, FCA, Ofgem, and Ofcom. This will be a fun event, and I hope to see many Stirling colleagues on the day as well.
If you would like to attend, please sign up here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/workshop-on-behavioural-science-and-digital-…
* Admission is free, and the event is catered (lunch; tea and coffee; drinks and snacks)
* Location: Cottrell Building (Court Room)
Should you have any questions, please get in touch with me (till.stowasser(a)stir.ac.uk<mailto:till.stowasser@stir.ac.uk>)
