Career Development Fellowship - Motion Tracking of Listening
Reference 2007-474
Full-time
The MRC Institute of Hearing Research (IHR) conducts world-leading research into hearing and hearing disorders. The Scottish Section (based in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary) has recently purchased a state-of-the-art motion-tracking system. We have a fellowship vacancy, offering a 3 year planned period of training and development, to use this equipment to study how normal and hearing-impaired listeners move their heads in response to sounds and how they orientate themselves to optimise listening.
IHR offers a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment in which to develop new skills and expertise in the field. The Scottish Section has excellent experimental facilities and an influential track-record in the sciences of auditory impairment, disability, and handicap, as well as in psychoacoustical experimentation and computational modelling.
Applicants should possess or be nearing completion of a PhD in auditory science, cognitive psychology, or a related field. We particularly welcome applications from those who have recently completed their PhD training, or wish to move into this exciting research field from a related discipline. Experience in hearing or motion studies is desired and a sound knowledge of cognition, perception, experimental design & analysis, and computation (especially Matlab) would be helpful.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a scientist to work on an important new area of auditory science and to develop skills in and an understanding of hearing impairment. You will be given every opportunity to establish your reputation in this field. The appointment is fixed-term for 3 years and will be to a starting salary in the range
£24,993 - £26,555 (pay award pending).
