The Siege Begins, Outrage in Baghdad
Yesterday the full siege of Falluja began after getting the green light from the so-called interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi. Using the same rhetoric as his master, Mr. Bush, he spoke of bringing justice to Falluja, killing the terrorists, etc., etc., ad nauseum.

The crushing of Fallujah will not end the war in Iraq
It is likely to be as disappointing in terms of ending the resistance as the capture of Saddam

Fanning the flames of resistance
With US forces storming into western districts of Fallujah early on Monday, seizing the main city hospital and securing two key bridges over the Euphrates River, the first stage of the long-expected assault on the insurgent stronghold appears to be under way.

US troops begin slaughter in Fallujah
The US assault on Fallujah should be regarded in the same way as opponents of Hitler’s Nazi regime viewed the fascist bombing of the Spanish town of Guernica on April 27, 1937: a warning of what is in store for the international working class as a whole if imperialist militarism is not defeated and overthrown.

Guantánamo Bay trial of David Hicks adjourned
Lawyers representing 29-year-old Australian David Hicks, one of four Guantánamo Bay prisoners formally charged with terrorism offences, secured a two-month adjournment of his military trial at a preliminary hearing last week. Previously scheduled for early January, the trial will now be held on March 15 to allow Hicks’ attorneys more time to review evidence, interview potential witnesses and prepare their case.

Why They Hate Us
I am surprised and disappointed that in the three years since Sept. 11, 2001, I have never heard or seen the media or our administration ask the question “why?”

Eulogy For America
Ladies and gentlemen, we gather here today to mourn the passing of the United States of America, a nation that once stood as a beacon light of hope for the world.

America failing test of history as offensive compared to terror tactics of pariah states
Muslim fundamentalist insurgents seeking to topple the government are holed up in a conservative city with little sympathy for secularism or pluralism. They raise the banner of Islam, and they call on the rest of the country to rise up and expel the oppressors. The government reacts by massing forces around the city. It demanded that the militants surrender or the city give them up. If not, the city would be destroyed. Fallujah this week? Yes, but it was also the Syrian city of Hama in the spring of 1982.

Unsafe for Democracy
In justifying the exercise of U.S. power, all modern presidents read off the same script. The United States stands for liberty. It champions democracy. It aids the oppressed and succors the afflicted. Alone among history's great powers, the U.S. acts on behalf of the "inalienable rights" that form the birthright of all humankind.

The End of the Arafat Era
As Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat lies on his deathbed in a Paris hospital, in a coma, lurched in that place between life and death, there is much cause for sober reflection in the Israeli and Palestinian camps. He was controversial in life, just as he will be in death when they try to find a proper burial place for him. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has already said that Arafat would not be buried in Jerusalem so as not bolster Palestinian claims to the city or the Temple Mount.

Puritanism of the rich
Bush's ideology has its roots in 17th century preaching that the world exists to be conquered

'Phantom Fury' Poised to Become Phantom Victory
With Monday's launch of 'Operation Phantom Fury' to regain control of the key insurgent-dominated Sunni city of Fallujah, the administration of U.S. President George W Bush appears to be moving toward another ''phantom victory'' in its broader quest to achieve a stable, pro-western Iraq.

Nicaragua elections weigh on president
Nicaragua’s leftist Sandinista Front sought to capitalize on the recent fracturing of a rival party during municipal elections Sunday amid ongoing attempts to remove the country’s president from office.

The Iraq Quagmire Deepens
The Bush administration has begun to strike Fallujah with 10,000-15,000 U.S. soldiers, starting with gunships indiscriminately raking the city with cannon fire. By the end of the first day, warplanes had carried out some two dozen sorties against the city, and four 500-pound bombs were dropped over Fallujah.
