Hi there MW friends,
have a quickie look the following document from
amnesty international
it's from 3 May 2000

If you check Amnesty international's library you will
come across the following article about Sudan from
2000
 Index: AFR 54/001/2000	      	3 May 2000

http://web.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGAFR540012000?open&of=ENG-SDN
http://web.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGAFR540012000?open&of=ENG-SDN

AI said in 2000 that oil has been the final spark for
uprisings.

AI also said that the Sudan government has cleared
populations living in oil fields...
Now the following is interesting - I quote from the ai
report:
"Amnesty International is publishing this report in an
effort to make clear the link between the massive
human rights violations by the security forces of the
Government of Sudan and various government allied
militias, and the oil operations by foreign companies.
The pattern of human rights violations includes
atrocities and the forcible internal displacement of
large populations of local people. These violations by
government security forces and armed opposition groups
are directed at the population living in oil fields
and surrounding areas, and is an effort to control,
protect or destroy the oil production capacity"

Check also the chapter 3 - "human rights violations
committed in the name of oil"...

document about 30 pages long but exciting read.
Best
Sigi
