Subject: Poles tell it like it is...

Poland's defence minister has said forces in Iraq under Polish command
will not participate in offensive operations. The minister, Jerzy
Szmajdzinski, told journalists that the nine thousand troops in the
Polish-led multinational division are a stabilisation force and would
only fight when attacked. The comments follow reports in the Polish
media of disquiet among Polish commanders at the strategy being pursued
by United States forces in Iraq. Yesterday, the Polish Foreign Minister
(Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz) told the BBC that some actions by US troops in
Iraq could be described as massacres.
