Iraqi Democrats Against Occupation (IDAO) is formed by a group of progressive
Iraqi activists who have been involved since 1991 in the committee of IRAQI
DEMOCRATS AGAINST WAR AND SANCTIONS. The formation of IDAO is in recognition
of the new political situation inflected on our country, and will continue the
campaign of solidarity with the Iraqi people in their struggle to end the
illegal military occupation and to build a free, democratic and united Iraq.

The Iraqi democratic movement is part the global movement for peace, progress
and democracy and against the exploitation of world resources by a greedy few.
IDAO will work closely to this end, in Britain, with the peace and the wider
labour movement, political parties, humanitarian and human rights
organizations.

The period immediately after occupation has shown an impressive show of unity
by wide sections of the Iraqi society, their slogans are clear: end the
occupation, completely dismantle the past regime’s repressive police force,
Iraqi oil and its resources for the Iraqi people, elections to form
representative Iraqi government in a united Iraq, compensation for the large
destruction of people’s lives, property and cultural heritage caused by US
and British forces. IDAO aims to work closely with groups and activists within
the Iraqi community, Arab and other Middle Eastern communities in the UK to
support the struggle of the people of the area.

IDAO will endeavour to encourage the various initiatives by Iraqi political,
cultural and humanitarian groups in support of the struggle of the Iraqi
people.

IDAO will provide informed and in-depth analysis on the political situation in
Iraq, as well as providing speakers for political meetings and broadcasting
media.
