The following was sent as an e-mail to the Radio
Scotland Lesley Riddoch Show this afternoon - it was read in full (by Alex Bell,
deputising for Riddoch who was at the Labour Party Conference in Dundee). I'm
forwarding this message to you because it's the first time I've heard this
controversial quote mentioned on mainstream media, and am dead chuffed I sent
it. I'm also forwarding a message of thanks to Alex for reading it.  The
quote is not directly from Rawnsley's book, but Robin Ramsay's 'The Rise of New
Labour' (Pocket Essentials, 2002)
Cheers to all,
Ian Brotherhood.

"I have taken from my party everything they thought
they believed in. What keeps it together is success and power."

 -  attributed to Tony Blair by Andrew
Rawnsley in his Servants Of The People (2001)

Perhaps the Labour Party membership should admit
that they were happy for Blair to take them back into power and were prepared to
turn a blind eye to his raw ambition - there has been much hand-wringing over
who is to blame for this war, but a lot of it is being done by those who
have supported Blair for years.
